Any diabetics using the FB?

Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss?  I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything.  A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

The A1c is a measure of your average blood sugar over a 3 month period. I suspect you didn't read it correctly or test correctly one of the times. I don't think you could get that much of a difference in a one week time span.

Juan, you are doing awesome! Reading your story is a true inspiration to me. My step goal right now is 10,000 but I think I am going to increase that to 15,000 and get out in walk more along with my p90 and biking. You are right, it is about the journey! We did not put all the weight on overnight and it is not going to all come off overnight either. It takes work and dedication to make the change, but we can do it!!!!!!

Great drop in A1c in 9 months as it is now almost normal. I imagine that you changed your diet as well as getting active. Hope that it is something that you can continue for life.  Some people reverse the signs of D2 and have normal bg and A1c. You are only .3 from normal A1c so congrats.

Keep up the good fight.

I just came back from my holiday in Guadeloupe! Gorgeous but challenging to find veggies that weren't potatoes or squash...I couldn't eat the salad according to the travel doctor so I avoided it. Still I did my best and swam lengths in the sea and in the gorgeous pool. The hotel was on a cliff so I walked up the highest steepest hill several times a day..I was truly glad of it!!
I had bloodworm before I went as I had my quarterly checkup yesterday. He said I was doing excellent but my A1C was identical at 5.8..I know that is pretty good but to be honest I tried SO hard and ate properly and exercised everyday and took my meds exactly as prescribed. My doctor said if I can keep my A1C about the same for next time, he will change me to every 6 months 🙂 Am I crazy to ge disappointed in the same A1C? Oh and no peripheral neuropathy:)) thrilled about that..plus my BP was great. It sits around 110/64. Glad to be back and hope everyone is doing well!!! Oh and I wore my Fitbit everyday but couldn't sync it while I was there.

AC1 changes over time. You have to mantain your healthy levels from 90 to 120 days. It is the lifespan of the hemoglobin cells [NORMAL] and AC1 mesures the amount of glucose attach to it.

Frenchie,
You should be thrilled with your results. I don’t think it could get much better. My doctor makes me come in every 3 months.
Which I kinda like because it keeps me wondering off my numbers. And knowing I am weighed in each time also keeps me
from not gaining weight.

as long as I have insurance I will take advantage of it and be there every 3 months.

I think I would be more comfortable with every 3 months too @JerriAnn. I am happy but in my heart of hearts I felt like it would be lower...anyhow I will take it and try and be satisfied. I have lost a ton of weight since April and try hard every day to make great food choices and portions as well as exercising every day. I am strict with myself and I suppose that is the way of it in order to keep healthy (which I want to do) 40 lbs off and my doctor said no specific weight goal..just the weight at which I can do all I want to do..he is young and just started the practice. He is up on the latest and I feel confident in my care. He told me that he wouldn't want to see my A1C be much lower. I am not sure of the reason. I got home and realized I didn't ask half of what I wanted to. I will put my questions of my phone next time. Haha! Sieve brain here. Feeling more confident now I have been at this for 6 months...hope you are doing well too!!! I am very thankful for this forum 🙂

Most of us forget some questions at the doctor's office. I agree that A1c every 3 months is good feedback.

Sorry about your number staying the same.  Maybe next time it will inch down for you.  I think that getting it to 5.6 which is normal is such a win and you going there. Prediabetes a1c begins at 5.7 and goes to 6.4 so you are in low end of the prediabetic range!  You are on your way and your BP is normal. You have lost lots of weight and are working on losing more. You might want to aim for the healthy BMI range for your height and gender. On line there are calculators that can figure that out for you.

Your walking up the highest hill several times a day on vacation is impressive.

All the very best,

Barbara G

Frenchie,

I really don't think your doctor would want you much lower. Losing the weight is sure something to be proud of.

It is rare for someone to tackle diabetes head on like you are doing. Most think medicine will take care of it.
They ignore exercising and eat whatever. Until reality catches up to them in time. Might take years then
All kinds of complications .Not to mention the expense.

Keep up the good work and live to be 100.

thank-you @dancefoxtrot 🙂

I am wondering when I start strength training, if it will make a difference to my A1C...anyway, I am sure it's going to be good for me.

I feel like I am doing well but always a bit nervous and anxious about having T2D. Next A1C is after the holidays and I am hoping the timing of it motivates me to keep eating well. I am pretty sure that if I tell my Doctor that I feel more comfortable with every 3 months he will do it. He thinks I've "got it" as far as managing my diabetes but I am still a bit anxious and I still feel like all the things I do are like a report card. My doctor told me he likes the balanced diet approach and I like that too but wondering if a small reduction in the carbs might make a difference. I would still LOVE an A1C of low 5's. It's my personal goal. I am not sure why he doesn't want to see my A1C much lower than what it is..I am sure a few points downward wouldn't be an issue..or I hope it wouldn't be. I really, really like my doctor though..he has time for discussion..it's just I forget to ask as there is always so much to talk about with this new life.

Thanks @JerriAnn! Yes I am super proud of my weight loss but even more, my walking and keeping active. I am beyond proud of that. I always walked my 2 dogs but lots of times it would be short due to cold weather or hot weather or just because and they don't need huge exercise...now they are both fit and trim and I am starting to get that way. My BMI now has gone from obese to overweight and next I can't wait for normal weight!!!!! I probably will pick top of normal so it's easier to maintain...

The one thing I truly miss even though I know it's a very bad habit is coming home from work after a "hell" day and just having a bowl of cereal for dinner hahah (no cooking)...ahh the old days but now I am a heck of a lot healthier and it was a huge wakeup call for me. Hope you are doing well!!!

Frenchie,
You know what I miss the most is eating at fast food places. I haven’t ate at one for 2 years. I feel that is why I gained the weight in the
first place. Being lazy not cooking. I still hate to cook. I use to drink a liter of pop every day. I don’t even drink diet pop any more.
Haven’t gave up my chocolate yet. Nor my potatoes. But if I do have them it is in the morning early afternoon. Never after 5:00 p.m.

Keep up the great work. And let us all know how you are doing. I love hearing about the success stories.

I love seeing all this great support and encouragement!  I think almost anyone can improve their situation with regard to diabetes -- maybe not to the same extent that some of you have, getting to normal numbers -- but certainly an improvement over what you maybe have now.  I went from a not particularly out of sight number of 7.3 on my A1c to a stead 5.6 all of the time.  My doctor announced that she "no longer considers me diabetic."  Wrong.  LOL!  I'm one giant plate of pasta away from being reminded that this doesn't just go away.  But I'm not having that big ol' plate of pasta!  So, it's all good. 🙂

Remember that you're investing in yourself, your future, and your time with the people who love you.  You're attempting to make that the best time possible, and that means taking the best care of yourself that you possibly can.  Will you have setbacks from time to time?  Sure, but they don't have to be anything that stops you.  They don't have to be the end of anything.  You just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back to it.  🙂  You'll be so glad that you did.

Well said @Lightsinger!!! Thanks for the encouragement for us all!!! I have to remember one slip up doesn't constitute failure..just to get back on it and make the best choices I can.. 🙂 Love how kind and supportive everyone is...I belong to some dog groups and it's nasty sometimes..glad it's not so here. 👍🏼😊
