Any diabetics using the FB?

Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss?  I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything.  A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

Not only can you get advice from the diabetic groups and American diabetes groups I know they have summer camps for kids to go to.
My friends sent their child to day camp each summer. They have to be able to deal with the shots. I use flex pins which are tiny needles
that she would be able to handle her self.

I am not a fan of any pumps. I know two people just recently almost died because theirs quit. Both were life flighted to the hospital.
I will just stick with my needle and handle it my self.

Good luck. Going through the teen years with her being a diabetic is very stressful for you and your daughter.

Hello

I am an insulin dependent diabetic with chronic pancreatitis.  I am about 80lbs overweight and can't seem to lose weight.  I'm frustrated beyond belief.  I can eat anything I want, and I mean anything and everything and not go over my current weight but I can starve myself, eat right, follow a diet program for months and maybe lose 5 lbs.  I don't think the insulin helps me at all and my sugars have been running high due to the constant overeating.  I had a pancreatic attack that landed me in the hospital in September because I was following a high protein diet and didn't realize that I was not processing the protein at all.  So now on top of the insulin, I am on an enzyme to digest my food.   I have come to the conclusion just this week, that I need to just get healthier.  The overeating of junk food is not helping either condition and if I am destined to be 245 lbs then I will be a healthy active overweight person instead of a lump on the couch eating everything in sight.  I hope to find some help, motivation, maybe even a friend to travel this journey with.  Hope you have an amazing day!!

I would not mind taking the jouney with you. I use myfitnesspal.com for the last 4 months and if you set your goals simple to loose 1lb a week you could be as successful in loosing weight. My food lists are public you can look at my lists but you can not eat processsed foods and junk foods. Foods you prepare yourself are better for you and are more satisfying. Start slowly,to change your lifestyle. It is hard work to get used to but well worth it.

Hi !
O gosh I know your despondency.
Where do you live, in what country? If in Canada, contact Canadian Diabetes Association. There is a webinar about that very thing, which they are holding next week.
I ran across Dr. Jason Fung on utube. He believes one can be cured of type 2 diabetes as the stats show of people who have had surgery to reduce size of the stomach so they cannot eat as much.
He treats diabetics to cure them by mimicing the surgery results without the surgery by intermittent fasting. You may get to his website by searching on computer for Dr. Jason Fung and Intensive Dietary Management. there is much information on that site, and a distance program for people who are not living in Toronto.

I bought the apple cider pills and I drink the apple cider dilluted.I tried it for a week and my stats were good. It is said it kills bacteria too.

I just found Bandar monkey food Mint cilantro chili sauce. I add it to my low fat Bolthouse dressing. Spicy curbs appetite. You can control the spicy-ness. I put it on everything. Zero calories, product of India.

I'm a T2 diabetic who decided at Christmas I was tired of fighting the highs and lows, and I had put on 25#s after quitting smoking.

I put down sugar (except fruits) and started the journey to getting healthy.

One of the things I did was visit a weight doctor (with my doctors approval) and she recommended a step tracker. After talking to several people at work with trackers, I chose the Fitbit Flex.

Along with food logging and vitamin shots from the weight doctor, I have lost 8 pounds since Christmas. My doctor advised since I use insulin (Lantus in the am, and fast as needed) that my weight loss will be slower than non-diabetics.

So I'm on a journey to get healthy now, and in the process control my diabetes with less medication.

Good progress. I am also losing slowly, but still losing. I think the fitbit is helping me. I can see exactly how much I walk each day, and try to get more active.

Hi! I'm diabetic! I'm 31 years old and got diagnosed diabetic type 2 when I was 15. I was 340 lbs and it has taken me many years to lose weight but now Im 220 and insuline free. I'm currently on invokana and metformin. I eat very healthy and exercise but my weaknesses are the sweets. Ugh! I'm working hard to reach 180 lbs which is my ultimate dream and I hope I will. Fitbit motivates me to move more 🙂

Puli Hello

Great. Logging your food is vital. You know the drill if you have been to a good nutritionist. Avoid empty carbs and cals. Eat piles of salad, veggies, not the starchy ones like potatoes & corn, eat some whole grains, not white flour, sugar, rice, etc..

Fit bit is fun but beware it counts steps while you are driving!

Walk, run, dance and enjoy.

Joel Fuhrman's book End to Diabetes is my favorite.

Welcome,

Barb

Eeek. Dramatic way to learn that you have Diabetes 2. I agree about the education, nutritionist, etc..

Many people can reverse type 2 with diet, exercise and the right meds..

Monitor your BG when you awaken before food and 2 hours after a meal to start with. Ask what your A1c is now so you can watch it fall. You are aiming to get it down to 5.5 eventually.

Go to diabetes.org and drfuhrman.com to get info. Read End to Diabetes by Joel Fuhrman, MD as he explains it really well.

Your can change your life and save your eyes, nerves, kidneys and blood vessels by lowering your BG. Walk, run, bike, dance, swim but burn off the extra.

Set reasonable goals like loosing a lb a week.

Eat super healthy, lot's of veggies, lean protein, and say good bye to stinking fried foods, sugar, soda, white bread, white rice, pasta. Adios junk food=hello health.

Best of luck,

Barbara

People that are mean are ugly. It sounds like you have been doing wonderfully. Make sure all your calories are from healthy foods.

Some genetics are involved.

All the best,

What 5"8" and 110-115. Sounds underweight to me. Look to quality of food.
