I usually gain back a pound or two around TOM (time of the month) mostly due to bloating and water weight. Sucks, I know, but don't stress about it too much and drinks LOTS of water. It'll help. Plust the water and exercising helps with cramps Smiley Happy

In case you're looking for multiple posts of confirmation - yes, it's normal.

I'm an ecommerce and online business consultant who sits most of the day. Getting off my butt with a Fitbit Flex since 12/2014.

Yep, normal. You can actually gain up to 10 lbs in water/bloat weight. I always go up and then right back down. It's not fat just extra water.

I found that Dandelion tea helps me a lot with water weight especially around that time of the month. It supports liver, kidney and bladder functions but states it is a diuretic. I found that the diuretic advisory applies to the increased urination, not necessarily bowel. When I drink one –two cups through the day my stomach is significantly flatter. Just replenish with fluids. Just google the tea to find out more.

You can find it at Sprouts, Trader Joes, Whole Foods or any similar market.

I have been thinking about buying this tea, just so hard to find in a normal store. I'll have to go to the ones that sell them which are out the way, since there are so many benefits! Thanks for the tip!! @brendamendez

You can also fluctuate due to ovulation.  Which also sucks.  If it bothers you, weight yourself once a month between ovulating and your period.  It may be a more accurate measure of how your weight has changed.

Women's hormones can certainly mask our weight loss progress.  When I was losing weight, I kept track only of my lowest weight and then worked to go below that.  That kept me from worrying or focusing on the inevitable weight upticks.

Water retention is very common during your period, this can cause anything up to a 10lb weight increase.

Try not to worry yourself, and keep working hard!

I get really light periods when I am dieting but I get more cramping. Today I woke up with vomiting and diarrhea. I thought I had the flu or something. This evening I got my period. It was a few weeks late. I thought maybe I would skip this month completely. Now I'm wondering if feeling ill was that. I think my problem was that this month I was skipping vitamins in the morning. I usually will gain a bunch then drop it all really quickly, like a wave. I didn't even bother weighing myself today. I'm pretty sure I'm dehydrated. I've never felt this sick with my period. Usually when I am sick I will skip it. I was disappointed to see it show up this evening. I don't want to feel like this all week. It reminds me of pregnancy. I'm definitely just a dieter.
