As a doctor the wieght can vary over days and time of the day 

Specially for women

This happens to me a lot.  Normally, in my case it's water retention that causes this.  If I eat a meal that has a higher level of salt in it, the next day I tend to retain anywhere from 2-5 lbs of water weight.  Oftentimes tnis will happen after I've eaten at a restaurant.  Also, female hormonal fluctuations can also cause water retention.  At "that time of the month" I oftentimes retain as much as 8 lbs of water weight.

I did forget to tmention in my prior post that some medications, such as ibuprophen can also cause water retention.  My water retention went down drastically when I stopped using over the counter medications to alleviate headaches.

Yes Medication induced water retention is awell known phenomenon.

Your body weight consists of more than just fat weight. It consists largely of fluid weight, lean muscle/tissue. Fluid weight fluctuates; hourly, daily, weekly. Many factors affect how much fluid our bodies are retaining at any given time; how much sodium or sugar you've eaten, hormones, how hydrated you are, exercise, etc. Another factor that affects our weight is food/liquid in our digestive tract at various stages of digestion.

 

Basically, weight fluctuation is completely normal and our weight is not a static number. It can go up or down as much as 5 lbs in a single day. For your most accurate weight, always weigh yourself at the same time every day, preferably first thing in the morning after you've used the bathroom and before you drink or eat anything.

My weight has gone up or down 5 pounds in a day.  In three days once i saw a 9 pound drop.  If I remember from the hacker's diet articles your body cycles like 14 lbs of water through every day so it is not surprising you'll see massive changes day to day that are just whatever random amount of liquid happens to be in your body at that given moment.

@cdale600 is correct.. You can lose a couple of pints of water overnight from sweat and exhaling moisture into the air, plus the liquids that you ingest other than water can have dramatic affects on weight. 1 glass of milk can weigh quite a bit more compared to water.   Also, if you become constipated for some reason, you can gain quite a bit of mass.  There are limitless ways to retain weight over the course of 24 hours.  If you don't see the numbers go back down in 24 hours, I would consider the scale as a culprit.

its a matter of what time of day, how the scale zerosout, what has been eaten, drank, quality of sleep, female male, stress level.

 

my husband and i changed our lifestyles 5 years ago, we are new to fit bit and we do not diet. we have lost over 150 together. 

 

i like to weigh myself 1-2 per week and make sure you reward yourself every week... maybe a new healthy snack, fruit, veggie, dinner out, (watch the calaries and condiments)

 

oh and by experience you may see a climb in weight do to muscle growth and you may level off for a few weeks .. dont get discuraged because when weight drops again it can be 10-12 pounds
