Hi natbailey, welcome to the forum.  I work on a 1500 caloric intake daily, but eat between 1500 and 1700 as long as I am 500 calories from my caloric OUT.  So, I burn approximately 2200 calories a day depending on whether or not I hit the gym.  On the days that I'm not as active, I SHOULD consume less calories because my caloric OUT will be less.  I also watch my carbs and sodium, and drink lots of water.  Remember healthy and thin are too separate issues.  Eating healthy will be the way to go and will result in weight loss.  I've been able to maintain my weight but would still like to go down about 3pds.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Lovin my FIT

I eat about 2,000-2,300 on average and burn 2,600-3,000 calories. I've lost 10 pounds in the last couple months. I got my Fitbit in January but didn't start changing my habits until late February, early March and that was when the weight started coming off. Mostly I focus on exercising more and watching my portion sizes of higher calories foods like sweets. Whole, natural foods like fruits and veggies I don't worry so much about portion size.

Im my fitness pal, it says i should eat 1450 calories per day.  In fitbit it is telling me i should eat 2800 per day and burn 3800 per day for a 1000 deficit.

I am confused.  I am trying to loose 2 lb/week.

I don't think i trust the calculation that fitbit is doing.

Are the calories burned based on my age, weight, heart rate, steps, and time exercised?  Do they use a diffeent intensity factor in the calculation for diffenent types of exercises (i.e. walking vs swimming vs weightlifting)

Not many are burning as much as Fitbit estimates or are as active as athletes are. I stick with 1200-2400 or less calories. Mostly 1200-1700 with clean eating on the extras. I'm mostly sedentary. So I know I don't burn 4,000 calories within the time frame. I mostly burn out in the early bird time.

Thanks for the response.  Like you, i am mostly sedentary (desk work) with exercise in the afternoon.

I am going to stick with the ~1500 calories a day.  Fitbit does show me burning over the 3200 cal/day on most days with walking, but i still don't know if i trust it.  I am basing this on not loosing the 2 lbs/week as my plan is set for....   lol   🙂

Any time I eat under 2000 calories in a day I count it as a win!
