I have to agree with Raviv. Cats cannot be trusted with your fitness.
Sorry...new here, and on Fitbit for a couple weeks now. This is after all a thread about "cheating". All kidding aside, I'm going to take a stab at anything outside of walking and running would be consider a cheat. Do you really have to ask, or just looking for an excuse to use a Border Collie? ;D

A kick drum with the left foot while driving might get everyone else's heart rates up too - it would be a community service!

Now I have heard my friend say that playing air drums while driving down the road listing to some classic Van Halen will indeed add a step or two. That one sounds a little shady to me though. I'm thinking friend could possibly add in a kick drum with the left foot, and call it legit.
Note: Playing a double kick drum in the car could potentially be hazardous to your health

I don't typically get into "gimmicks", but Fitbit played a large key to losing 40 lbs by New Year (without using my dog). All said because you just have get moving, and the more the better. In place, around a couch, around the house...anywhere. If it makes steps do it, and then do it some more. 😉
Walking in place is a very effective exercise.
Keep in mind, though, that it uses about 15% fewer calories than walking on a treadmill and fewer still than walking outside (where air resistance and grade changes combine to increase calorie count).
If you have a FitBit that measures heart rate, though, it will correct for these differences to a large degree.
