Jubilant July 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

ANSWERED

How It Works:

The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for July 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency . So whether you do 100,1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.

Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day

Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format

1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.

2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Optional

3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.

4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Oddly enough, the optional items keep growing, that's why I changed the title slightly.  In the end it's about setting goals and improving habits.  So the optional items can really be anything.  Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc.  Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you would be aiming for a number not necessarily out of 31.  Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice

If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Three goals for Jubilant July:

1. 10,000 steps/day.

2. Run 75 miles.

3. Body weight exercises:

a. Odd days: Plank.

b. Even days: Push up.

Plank will be best effort.

Push up will be only one repetition, but concentrating on form. I've always been rubbish at push ups, so perhaps July will be the month I do something about that?!

Thanks @almost_where!

I'm sticking with the goals and bonus schema I set in June.  My one push-up/day goal in particular guarantees me a "win" even on really low energy days, and on every other day going down to the floor for the easy win gets me started, where I might not if I was going for 50 or 100.

Hello @lionsroar,

Please excuse my ignorance. Would you be kind enough to tell me what an ARC is?

Thank you.

I didn't know until a couple of weeks ago, either. In fact, I worked out on the elliptical next to it at the gym for weeks and thought it was a stair stepper, but it's not. It's very much like an elliptical, but the feet pedals move in a more natural position than they do on an elliptical. It says it gives you a better, more intense workout for less perceived effort. I don't know about that, but I do know that I burn more calories on the ARC than I do in the same amount of time on the elliptical, and the ARC is much easier on my knees. I guess you learn something new every day.  🙂

You can Google ARC trainer for more info.

Day One

1. 10,000 steps/day. 1/31

2. Run 75 miles. 3.1/75

A great start to the new month:

Steps done, no trouble at all.

3.1 miles of running was my local Parkrun. I got a new PB (25:44), so I'm delighted with that.

Plank before breakfast this morning. Only 30s, but it's from little acorns that mighty oak grow!

I am in.

Here are the simple set of things I want to be consistent for this month

1) 13,000 steps

2) Run - current goal is at least twice a week. If I get this done more, I will be happy. It comes to 9 days of running for this month.

3) 1 push

4) Plank

Optional: Squats and Russian twist.  I want to make it a habit of doing something related to core exercise. Hope I will accomplish this.

Good Luck every one!

June was a complete write-off for me.  After a rough three and a half weeks my mother passed away yesterday.  I didn't even go back to figure out how I ended June so I decided I would set the same basic goals for July.  I think the only one that I hit was the daily push up.

1) 10,000 steps a day

2) 26 days strength training (6 days on, 1 day off)

3) 31 days - single push-up

4) 15 days of laps in the pool

I've done 1,2,3 today but I don't think I'm going to hit the pool before bed (but you never know).  I suspect I'm going to struggle with #2 and #4, but I'm going to make a point to try and keep #1 and #3 in check.

Got some of my steps on the DC mall yesterday.  If you are in the area, go check out the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  It's free!  Running from now through July 4, and again next weekend.

A theme this year is Circus Arts.  Really enjoyed a talk on The Art of Circus Cooking.  And saw a great high-wire act featuring three generations of the Wallenda Family Troup just before a thunderstorm blew through and forced everyone to run for cover!  No Wallendas were harmed in the ensuing rain and wind barrage.  :-).
