Just wondering if there are any older women trying the Fitbit, I am 70 and just started.

Looking to see if anyone else my age is trying the fitbit to lose weight, I am 70 but I do workout with a personal trainer and take Yoga.

Keep it up. I was getting my steps in & was working out at the Cardiac Wellness Program. I was disappointed also in not losing any weight. I worked really hard at it. However, I did notice that my clothes were fitting me differently AND that my thighs got tougher. They had become more muscular & there was less 'fab'. Muscle weighs more than fat; so, the weight that I was gaining was the muscle that I was building. Now, the rest is finally coming off. Keep at it. Note how roomier you clothes are becoming. It works. One step at a time.

Hi, I just got a great pep talk from another member to just keep at it and notice your clothes fitting better and toning up, your getting muscles that will burn more and weigh more. Don't stop! It will come off slowly.

Thank you for your response. I am trying so hard. I walk at least 3.2 miles everyday. I feel like clothes are a little looser but I just get disgusted looking at the scale. I am not a big eater and have never had a weight problem until I hit 60. I have always had a flat stomach until I hit 60. Now I have a stomach and just can't loose it. I also have a sit down job and have to stayed glued to my seat which I know isn't helping but I will keep plugging away. I just can't get as discouraged and frustrated as I am.

PERFECT! So it is working. I know it is disappointing. We wish that it would just drop off but we didn't gain it over night either. Get it up & keep in touch. Step on ~

I know it is disappointing & that we have to work so much harder to meet our goals. You might try setting shorter goals. ie. 1-2 lbs at a time so you do see success I know that when I even see 1/2 lb gone, it makes my day & makes me step on. That is an 'ata-girl' for me. I did reach a plateau for a few days, but I changed up what I was eating to 'fool' my body & it worked.
At work, there are some sitting leg stretches & bounces that you can do. Get up every half hour or so & go for a stretch walk about. Walk during your breaks or lunch. There are always small things that you can do that you do not realize help you in reaching your goals. Also, in each of your meals, make sure you include protein ie egg, cheese, lean white meat, protein shake. Hope some of these ideas help. You will get there ~ we all will. Keep in touch. Step on ~

I'm also 70, and have been using the Fitbit Flex for about a year. I do my freelance work on a desk treadmill, so tracking my steps is really important. I don't go fast, but I spend about 3-4 hours a day walking about 1-2 miles an hour on the treadmill while I work on my computer. I've been very impressed with the Fitbit product, although I have switched my food tracking to My Fitness Pal, as they have a better food list. But the two programs work well together! Lost about 50 lbs, thanks to an Optifast program through Kaiser Permanente. But without the walking, Fitbit, etc., I wouldn't be able to maintain the weight loss.

Dear elihandler,
Wow that is so good for you. Keep it up.
My story is I have been up and down the last 3 years. Right now I am a little disappointed because as hard as I am trying the scale is what is discouraging because its creeping up a tiny bit at a time. I don't want to go UP. I walk my 5 miles a day and try to eat properly. I guess I will have to do something different maybe change things up or something. I am determined not to go up any more pounds. I will figure something out. I have been on Medifast and lost 24 lbs but when I eat out or eat to much the pounds come right back. errrr.

Don't be disappointed. I often put on a few lbs after a dinner out. But I get right back on schedule & those temporary lbs. drop right off. If you have not introduced protein in each meal, try that. Try switching your breakfast & lunches. Fooling the body into not expecting the same thing day after day helps. Don't forget all your water. Should be drinking half your body weight in oz of water. Remember, also, you are creating muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Keep at it. The Ladies online are great supporters & are full of encouragement. So, keep on stepping.

The hardest part of the fasting programs is going back to "real" food. I
found that I had to be really strict about eating every 3 hours. And
learning what is *enough* for one a real food meal! Just one egg, one piece
of toast and some grapes, for instance. I realized that my habit was to eat
as though it was my last meal.... I have to keep saying "enough!"
Hang in there!

These are the breakfasts that I alternate with ~ sometimes they become lunch or dinner also.

Protein shake ~ 16 oz almond milk, 1/2 greek yogurt, 1/2 banana (or other fruit of choice), scoop of protein powder, 1 tsp flaxseed oil, cinnamon.

40g oatmeal, 1/2 c fruit - blueberries (I love homemade applesauce with no sugar), ground flaxseed & lots of cinnamon (I find I get so much energy from this breakfast)

Omelette ~ 1 egg, 1/2 c egg whites, mushrooms, onions, peppers & 1/4 c shredded cheese. It looks like a lot of food. It is. It keeps you full.

I count carbs because I am diabetic. 0 Carbs in the omelette & maybe 30 Carbs in the oatmeal breakfast depending on the fruit used. 30 Carbs in the shake.

Hope this helps. Keep on stepping ~

Hi Helena,

I am 66 and retiring in June. I teach school and have some active days but most are not. After school, I go home and eat then sit in the recliner and watch TV. The fitbit has been on my mind for awhile but when I saw it on sale for $20 less than usual and I had a $20 gift card from my daughter for Mother's Day, I said it's the perfect time for fitbit. Seeing the numbers is very motivating. I have been logging my food religiously. I have not seen weight loss but have not significantly restricted my food intake or reached 10,000 steps in a day. It just makes sense  that I have been so sedentary that gaining weight was the only logical result. Today is the first time I have been on the community forum which is also pretty cool. I enjoy reading the stories others share and seeing the encouragement. Those of us who are older have enought life experience to do the hard things that have to be done. We have soldiered on for others now it is time to fight the battle for OURSELVES. Fitbit is one of our weapons! Fight the good fight, ladies. There will be victories and there will be defeats but if we don't give up we will win!

That sounds just like me! It's like I'm afraid there won't be any food available in 3-4 hours so I better grab all I can now! Haha! It's really funny when you say it out loud. How are you combating this mindset?

That is an excellent idea! Treats in the garage!  I'm going to do that. Thanks,

I guess it works best when I make the effort to plan a meal, with the right
portion size, and eat it 3 hours after the last one. And in between, I
really talk to myself about feeling satisfied: "See, that was just enough
for right now. I can eat again in 2 hours and 5 minutes, and I am not
hungry now. So drink some water and get busy with something." Lots of
talking to self! Not easy....
