Hi Marie,
Yikes I hadn't noticed the grocery cart. It would work if tied to our ankles instead of our hands for the swinging action. This is a good design suggestion to make a wearabld ankle and wrist version for certain activities. I bet we can tie it on with some string or ribbon and under slacks who would know? I sure want credit for all my steps but in the balance I get some extras from driving and lose some in the super market and ballroom dancing.
See you in the Labor Day challenge I hope.
Stay strong and determined,
Barb

And your dog will be healthier too as they need the walk. I dance and walk around the house to add more steps. We are getting healthier together.

Hi GloryB,
Many of us are in the 65+ age group and love dancing. I actually have old video tape of Richard Simmons, Dancing to the Oldies. He is quite the character.
All the best on your journey toward health,
Barbara

Swing your wrist that you are wearing it on to register steps. We should definitely get all the credit due us.
Hello fellow Barb as well.
Glad that you joined us,

Hi Helena, I turned 73 in June, lost about 25# last fall. Was diagnosed pre-diabetic which prompted me to change my lifestyle. Still having some struggles keeping the weight from returning as I appreciate having a bmi of 23 & feeling healthy again.
I am located in Denver metro area

Good work in getting to 23 and on your way to 22. Did you beat pre diabetes yet? You can do it.

I am 71 and having a hard time getting motivated and thought it might help to have friends in the same age group....I can't keep up with the young ones anymore due to arthritis and knee replacements. I know I am suppose to do 10,000 steps a day but right now I am doing good to get in 3000 daily. Also trying to diet to help with diabetes.

Hi, I am 73 as of last June. It can be difficult however if you set your mind to doing it you will succeed & feel great for the accomplishment. Set yourself a weekly goal of, let's say, 3000 steps a day. The following week set your goal for 3200 steps, keep adding more each week until you reach 10000 steps.
I know you can do it. A treadmill with a good book motivates me or even a something interesting on tv.
Best wishes, hope to hear more from you

Lots of inspiration here! Wonderful stories of success and effort. I'm 71, been overweight forever -- until the last five years when I finally achieved a normal weight; my highest weight was 225 in my early 20's, then down to 180 where my body really liked to be for years. Once I retired a few years back, I got serious about consistent exercise and mindful eating. I had been going to Curves for a few years, but it did not seem to be working for me. I returned to Weight Watchers but found that even following their points system, I was not losing much weight. Then I did three more things: I joined my local YMCA (group exercise classes), quit eating bread, and got a Fitbit. From then on, I began to consistently lose one pound a week. For an older female, that is phenomenal, and I found it very encouraging. After about ten months, that rate of loss slowed down a bit -- but I am now a Lifetime Weight Watcher member, who is 25 lbs below her original weight goal. Yes, it's a struggle to maintain this. It is a lifelong battle but well worth it to feel this good. Keep up the great stories. You can do this!

Hi Kimmy11,
I am 55 and I am using Fitbit with its App/website combined with a free app called My Fitness Pal. My metabolism has really changed as well, I cannot lose weight as easily as in the past. However, now, using FitBit and My Fitness Pal, I am steadily losing 1 to 2 lbs a week (depending on how good I am with the calories). My Fitness Pal is a calorie, nutrition, and exercise log that connects with FitBit. You can use UPS symbols to log food calories and nutrients with, or type info into My Fitness Pal yourself and it stores your food info. FitBit sends Fitness Pal your calories burned and Fitness Pal sends FitBit your calories consumed.
So basically it is a calorie consumed/calorie burned awareness program; you think you may not be taking in that much, so it makes you aware of how many calories you really do consume. I think of it more as a lifestyle change than a diet. I plan to increase my calories to maintenance level once I've reached my goal, but I will still use the MFP and FB to help me stay on track.

Excellent effort, you! I'm 71. I was very diligent to My Fitness Pal for the 1.5 years it took me to take off 60 lbs and know it helped me tremendously in getting from obese to "merely" overweight then to a normal weight. Such a good food and exercise database; makes it very easy to log food. It's quite rare to find a food or brand that is not listed. In the last two years I've only logged into MFP sporadically, but I have maintained my weight loss. I've started up again to log food daily, as part of a MOOK (on-line course) called Nutrition and Wellbeing through the University of Aberdeen in the UK. The instructors recommended MFP as the best site to use if one likes to do on-line logging rather than pen and paper. If any of you are interested in taking this MOOK, it is free and lasts for 4 weeks. The second week starts tomorrow, but I think you can register for it anytime until the 4 week passes by. It's through a MOOK company called futurelearn.com. The site is very easy to navigate and the course work is very interesting. It's not for college credit, so there's no need to stress -- just have access to university professors and good information about nutrition.

HI there!
Wow this thread has been going for a long time! Since 2013. I am 50.. in answer to your old question. LOL I LOVE Fitbit I lost close to 60 lbs using Lindora and my fitbit to measure my steps... One of the things it does for me is, at the end of the day if I have not hit at least 10,000 steps i will grab my headphones and walk around my block until i hit it.. does not take that long, but being able to measure is huge. Plus the feature to see your friends exercise we spur each other on. I have also found walking is perfect for me. I use to do Jazzercise and i loved it but i seemed to eat more then i burned, i dont over eat my calories burned with this and i have weight loss. So that is exciting. I have not been as good with the water lately and the writing down my foods so that is my goal this week to work on those... I need to keep this weight off!!! we all neet to keep at it and not give up!! Plus you feel so much better right!?

Hey congrats for being here! Fitbit really helped me to be more consistent with my daily exercise.
What program of healthy eating and fitness are you using?
Cheers
