I have a suggestion, if I may. Labor Day is 8 1/2 weeks away. Trying to lose 43 lbs in that short time may set you up for discouragement. Why not aim for 1-1.5 lbs a week which would be about 9-13 lbs? You can do that by burning 500-750 calories more than you eat each day.
Track and log your food so you are aware of all of your choices and how many calories and other nutrients you are eating.
Take heart. We are doing this together.

try tying the fitbit to your ankle as that should register a step on your bike.

Excellent point about walking and movement creating solutions and increasing focus. There are studies confirming this.

Great self knowledge of past errors and patterns. Makes sense to go at a healthy pace. You know how to do this.

Best AnswerThanks! I may have worded that wrong - duh me! LOL I know I can't lose that much that quick - -but I'd like to lose 2 lbs a week or even 1.5 as you suggested. 10 lbs until Labor Day would be great - -we go to the Adirondack Nationals every year; which is the following weekenmd, and I'd like to be AT LEAST where I was last year (less would be better LOL). I took a friend to her therapy this morning, and I can join 'the gym' there -that's great - because the closest Y is 27 miles away - this is only about 5 or 6. So, Friday I join. 🙂
luvkoalas,
great. a slow steady pace is best. that's how we put it on. that's how it will best go off.
Enjoy the gym. That's a great idea.
Keep on keepin' on.

Great move LuvK
A local gym is a big incentive especially if you are going there with a friend. Glad you clarified that your goal is reasonable. Enjoy the journey,

Thank you Barb!
Yes. I am very grateful to have met an amazing doctor who is also experienced in obesity medicine. She is highly specialized and is doing lots of clinical research in this field. I feel that - after seeing nutritionists and diet coaches and regular GP's who just give you the Heinz 57 talk - I have finally found the support I need.

In what City and State do you live? Maybe someone nearby needs a gt. specialist.

I live in Toronto, Canada. But there are Obesity / Bariatric Medicine Specialists all over the country.
www.obesitynetwork.ca is a good resource for Canada.
Similar for the States is www.abom.org - The American Board of Obesity Medicine. There is also a whole list of Partners (organizations and universities) that can help find a specialist in your area.
Thanks Mermaid,
This may be useful to someone in our challenge.
Keep on keeping on.

Best AnswerFirst week of the new challenge down and unfortunately no loss, but on the plus side.. no gain!
SW: 134 LBS (Dec 2014)
SW for challenge: 125 LBS
Week 1 (CW): 125 LBS
GW: 116 LBS
UGW: 112 LBS
Considering this included the Canada Day celebrations (during which I indulged with my good friends Ben & Jerry and Haagen Dasz, and had a great time enjoying drinks on the patio), I am not too surprised or discouraged. Actually gained a couple pounds during the week but got right back on track after the parties and managed to lose them by eating right and continuing to exercise. Been dining on delicious dinners all week, like steak medallions, pork tenderloin, grilled chicken breast and salmon, with delicious BBQ vegetables like sweet peppers and sarracha, roasted garlic grilled asparagus, and mushroom caps with applewood smoked cheddar! Not hard to eat right when everything tastes so good!
Have no doubt I'll be able to get back on track for next week, especially with a weekend working on the house and cottage 🙂
Nick R,
