Do u need an air conditioned space to dance or walk in? Some folks go to YWCAs, malls or gyms. Some folks have good AC at home and turn on music and dance. Just one more hour a day to make it to 10k in steps. Most important is limit animal fat, refined carbs (white bread, rice, pasta, flour and pasteries) as well as sugar. Eat lots and lots of veggies, some whole fruit, lean protein and you will be full and healthy. Consider a large salad as the main dish, have some vegetable bean soup and each day have some steamed veggies. (non-starchy ones). Good fats in nuts, salmon & avocado instead of french fries.
You are moving in the right direction and if you lose 1 lb a week it will be 7 lbs by LD. Don't get discouraged measure your waist at the belly button level to see if you are losing by converting fat to muscle.
We are doing this together and we can make it to our goals.

Hi Kaela
Soda and candy destroy health. You can eat healthy and not participate in creating type 2 diabetes with your family.
Best of luck,

I sit on my rump all day at work so this is going to be a real challenge. I try to do the Wii every morning for 30 minutes and my goal is to get up to 10000 steps per day. I got my fitbit on May 19, started the Wii on July 16. I need the encouragement and support. For health reasons I need to lose the weight but most of all I need to keep it off. Labor Day here I come.

@dancefoxtrot thank you for the good information, no excuses! I can do this. It's so worth it.
@shortstack I too sit all day, it's a challenge! I have a wii, but don't use it regularly, it is a lot of fun though. I go in spurts. Any particular games you enjoy?

Barbara G,
Glad your tendon is healing. Keep doing those exercises. You may have to continue after you have healed to prevent recurrence. I do my achilles and plantar exercises daily - don't want to go back to a year of being sedentary, or that kind of pain. I have several inserts, depending on the shoes and how things feel. I'm up to 10,000 steps periodically with no pain so...until this heat wave I was doing about 7,000 regularly. Feels so good to be healthy and able to move.
I cracked up when you said you look forward to my upbeat posts. I feel like I complain a lot. Like about still not being a smaller pants size! But, it's great to feel healthier and have fewer aches and pains. I have been doing pilates, which i find great for overall flexibility, strength, balance. I use tapes and a large ball. And I have been doing weights - hopefully won't lose much muscle as I lose weight.
I can't get over you cutting down trees, moving brush, putting together a picnic table, etc etc. As usual I'm very very impressed. You must be very strong, energetic, flexible, balanced, agile.....wow!

Beautatious AnneGirl,
You made the 150's by losing 2 lbs. Isn't this cool- getting back to a more fit and healthier body.
Congrats,

Hi again Bobbinyc,
Well you are very positive and supportive to me and we all complain a little and we are allowed. Just part of the process to look at what is still missing or difficult for us. The important part is that we don't give up when we are injured or on a plateau. We have lots to be grateful for while we get healthier. I'm glad that you can do the 10K steps again.
Now I'm going to complain. My PT went a little crazy with deep massage on the tendon and within a few hours while dancing I felt pain increasing. It turned out that my ankle area go swollen, stiff and painful. Man I hope that she knows what she is doing! So I drove home, limped upstair and have been icing and elevating the foot for hours. I took Ibuprofen and now off to sleep in hopes that I can teach my exercise class in the morning.
Let's keep on keeping on choosing healthy food and trimming our excess padding.

Welcome Ashante and Shortstack and other newbies,
We are all rooting for each other as we get more fit. Eat lots of veggies and lean protein and some fresh fruit. Drink all the 64 ozs. of water each day. You can do this,

I just wanted to share something I found today for lunch. We recently moved (I used to go home for lunch) now the real goal is to start packing my lunch, but sometimes I don't quite get around to it, like ahem..today.
I was thinking about what I was going to have, and I remembered that Noodles & Co. have something called Buff Bowl, where they swap the pasta for spinach and do double veggies, so I ordered online a Japanese Pan Steak bowl, just 320 cals?!? I'll report back how it tastes. My mouth is watering!

Bobbinyc,
Thanks for sharing your healing journey. I'm glad that you took a break and protected your foot. My PT won't be doing that deep massage to me again as I won't allow it. My body is in my trust and the PT stepped over the help harm line. Now that said, after spending the afternoon and evening icing, elevating and resting it, I'm astounded that my ankle is normal size and not in pain. I taught my 2 exercise classes with some restraint and I'm resting and icing my ankle before my waltz class in 1 1/2 hours. The body is so incredible in it's ability to heal even at 74 yrs young. Something we can be profoundly grateful for each and everyday if we do our part to listen to it and feed it well.
All the best to you,
Barbara G
