I am a school teacher and most of my vacation time is in July--and this makes it SO hard to keep on track with my eating. I'm looking for some others that would like to stay motivated through the month of July and reach a goal of losing at least 5 lbs. I do a mix of cardio and strength training faithfullty, eating clean and drinking enough water being my biggest challenges.
If you'd like to join me--please reply. Let's start of the new month right!
I am loving all of the responses! Today I got in my 10,000+ steps (slmost 5 miles) I was careful to log exactly what I ate! Dinner was at Uno's and I got the Flatbread Veggie on 5 grain . It was scrumptious! And was right on target. I need to drink more water!!! I've been waging war with fat all of my adult life. It is not fun and a lot of hard work. I like the idea of a Rebounder. Budget strained right now. Maybe later. Hope you all had a successful day today.
Best AnswerCan I join too? I have pounds to lose and they just don't want to seem to come off! I know drinking enough water is an issue for me as is late night trips to the freezer for ice cream :). I also need to be more consistent about my exercising. Would love to be a part of the group...thanks for starting this.
Best AnswerSuz---you made great food choices! YEA!
Buying the rebounder was no small decision---we did the 6 month no intrest so that helped some.
I ran four miles today so I got my cardio/steps in early...but tonight my body is reminding me why I don't do it often--hips and knees, hips and knees! UGH! Plan on getting a few more steps in tonight when I take the dog for a walk. Eating has been clean.
I have drank much ore water today--sure hope my bladder can adjust to this!
Have a great day everyone!
Echo---Please join in!
What do you teach? I taught 5th for many years and am now an instructional coach for tech integration and our New Teacher Academy...I'm loving it!
Best AnswerKj---I do a lot of power walking in the summer--I have a 4, 6 and 8 mile route that I use. Having a few hydration issues when I go that far, but I just need to keep my sodium up!
Walk On!
I did a 2.5 mile run this morning and then a punk rope class tonight. i am going to end the day at 40 active minutes and just over 13k steps. I am happy with that. Now to just keep away from the snacks!
I am training for my first 10k which takes place in just over a month. I am hoping consistent training along with this group make these last stubborn 5lbs come off for good!
Best AnswerKJ--It's this last 5-10 that are SO hard to get rid of. I ran most of 4 miles yesterday in 55 min.--while my cardio endurance is fine, my hips rebel! Today is a strength training day for me, so while I burn the calories, my steps are always lower. I swear by the strength training element, though--I'm 100 lbs. lighter than I was years back and I know it's what made the biggest difference for me. Just good stuff. ![]()
Best AnswerEcho--yep, eating out is SO hard! We're heading to Ann Arbor for my daughter's 25th birthday for the weekend, and while we always afford ourselves one "Free Day" from regimented eating, I know it's going to be tough to eat clean outside of that one day.
I think we just need to commit to making the best choices we can and not beat ourselves up over the fact that it might not be perfect. I always tell myself it may taste good for a moment, but how I feel mentally after I make a bad choice is a killer for me!
Make the best choice, and move on!
Best AnswerI don't know if I said this before, but here's something that helps me SO much.
Let's face it, we all eat things we shouldn't and miss a workout--we're human...it's just how it is sometimes. When I was at my heaviest, if I would miss a workout or eat something I shouldn't, I would just throw in the towel. It would spiral me back to my old ways thinking, "Well, I've failed again, doesn't matter now." So, this is what we do now at our house:
When we eat something we shouldn't or miss a workout, we "Isolate it." We put up walls around that mishap and here's the important part--we vow to make our next meal or workout as good as it can be. This was a HUGE game changer for me--it made it so I didn't spiral out of control--it got me right back on track. Quickly.
So today, I encourage you to "ISOLATE IT!" Don't beat yourself up, don't give yourself permission to just go back to your old ways---you're stronger than that. You may be human and succumb to temptation sometimes, but you don't let it throw all your hard work away.
Have a great day--heading down to work out!

I know---I do strength training circuits and I have to log my caloric burn or I get no credit for it! I usually do it in circiuts on my stationary bike and rebounder so it really makes it hard to log my caloric burn. 😞
Best AnswerThe last few are ALWAYS so hard to take off---I get stuck at 145--it's like my body reeeeeeeeally likes it there.
Ticket-I love the idea about isolating it! I know when I slip up I tend to allow that one slip up to cause me to make bad choices for the rest of the day. I am going to try and remember this!
Well, I am starting this holiday up .5. I am going to try and make good food choices AND get my exercisign in. We are going to be away for the next 5 days and it will be a real challenge. My sneakers and workout clothes are packed!
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th. Is it raining where you are? Are you all safe from the storm?
Best AnswerSorry I haven't posted in a few days. Its been kind of crazy trying to get everything done that I need too before I go back to work. So far so good. Today I finally got my steps so I was happy. Today I got 11,000 something and the last few days haven't been that great (only 3,000 range
). I've been really good at keeping to my calorie count though so that is one thing that I am definitely proud about. Well it's really late and I'm getting up early so that I can get my steps in. My new evil plan, walk to Starbucks every morning (about 3.5 miles) and get a unsweetened green tea (0 calories)
Now that's what I call motivation, lol. Have a great day/night everyone and good luck with the challenge.
