Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

Hi. I'm Laura (age 56) and I live in Maryland. I workout at a gym 3 times a week. I'm fairly healthy except I have terrible problems sleeping, even if I work out a lot. I try taking supplements like Melatonin and Taurine but really only get relief if I take Ambien. I played competitive women's ice hockey for years but am sadly out of shape. My very fit 24 year old son has been trying to motivate me to work more.

Hi ladies i am slightly younger not much @48 but would love join in. I got my blaze last week and lost 2.5 lbs. I'm trying to power walk every day and am logging my food. I have lost weight so many times in my life but have always yo-yoed. I really want to make permanent changes as I approach my 50's. Delighted to hear how overs are doing and maybe support each other along the way.

I'm on nights at the moment and feeling a bit like snacking hence on here reading posts to motivate myself not to eat. For me food is about feelings both good and bad and comfort and reward all the things we all know are unhealthy. I have 3 kids 2 doing major exams which is stressful but they are managing and one little guy who is 8 determined to try and stay healthy bor both our sakes. Also hoping my healthier outlook will rub off on my husband who is slim but has pretty bad eating habits. Looking forward to helping each other or give a kick in the right direction when necessary.

Just a question if anybody has any advice it would be gratefully appreciated. I am struggling with the menopause and the effect it's having on my moods. I'm trying to avoid hrt but it definitely adds to the desire to comfort eat. I have only recently since my new approach with the Fitbit started supplementation some oils and c and d I live in Ireland and we are definitely sun deficient over here. If anybody has anything that helps I would so appreciate hearing about it. Thanks have a good day. I resisted eating anything crap last night so I'm off to bed feeling pretty good about myself.

Do you guys struggle more with exercise or diet? I'm finding it hard to motivate my self to exercise but I am doing it. I could have cried yesterday but moved my butt and definitely the Fitbit helped with that. I'm trying for 15000 steps but stop @10000 pretty much if I don't exercise so same as today I'm here moaning to myself but I just renewed my Spotify they are doing a good 3 month deal so it's something to look forward to move with. I'm so much better when I exercise in the morning but invariably put it off till the evening. Ah well the point is I'm doing it I guess. Have a good day everybody.

Sounds like you are taking a healthy approach to menopause. I am nearly 60, so hoping that is all behind me. My son in law is from Ireland, County Cork. My daughter has been several times and complains about the lack of sunshine. We live in Massachusetts and Maine. We do get our fair amount of sunshine and I find at least a half hour each day outside in it is helpful and I take 4000 international units of Vitamin D a week. It does help improve mood.
I have been averaging about 7000 steps a day, my goal is 9000 and I do make it most days. It is hard to get all the steps in because I am a medical transcriptionist and sit typing part of the day too. I have an old chocolate lab who is nearly 12 and she loves to walk every day, as long as it's not too hot or humid. My husband, of 40 years, and I live in an apartment just south of Boston and my daughter lives in the same town with her husband and two children. My son and his wife and three children live in Maine, we get up there once or twice a month in the non-winter months.
Hope to be able to become friends and help each other on this journey. I have 40 pounds to lose. Would love to be off my cholesterol medication.
Sincerely,
Rose Provost

@rosep1957 Cork is such a beautiful part of the country here. So scenic and really good food! I also love Boston we usually go once a year I have an 18 yr old a 19 yr old and an 8 yr old for my sins! I am hoping to lose avoid the cholesterol meds by intervening now. I want to loose 2 stone but it should probably be 2 and a half for my height but so be it. Would sooo love to make some friends on this journey. I live close to my Mom who is just the best person she's 75 and I can't even contemplate her not being around she's like a second mom to my gang. Anyhow just going to enjoy her and appreciate her. I work 12 hr shifts and can be pretty active in work I used to be so much better but I think this last year has been pretty disastrous in terms of my mental health I'm shaking it off. Moving forward and making a little space for me. I don't know about you guys but I think sometimes as moms we can really leave very little for ourselves. I have made that mistake I don't like to call it a mistake in a way because it's be done in love and has given lots back but it just feels like the right time to give something to myself. I'm married 22 years next month my other half doesn't really get the food addiction. He's delighted for me that I'm focusing on myself but he's just not a foodie. I stopped drinking my beloved wine 2 yrs ago also I think contributed to my weight problem as I probably replaced the comfort I got from that with chocolate!!!! It wasn't a problem I just felt it could have become one and I was not going to let that happen. Anyhow that's a brief synopsis of where I'm at delighted to help each other with this. In relation to food I have been reading lots and listening to lots of podcasts and I'm really interested in eating smarter. I used to think it's simple calories in v energy used but really things seem to have moved on so much more. The thing I find hardest is breakfast I'm a carb girl at heart and I want to save my eggs for during the day. What are you guys eating for breakfast. I was having all bran or porridge but I don't feel is value for my buck in terms of calories and sugars etc. This morning I had 2 turkey rashers which was fine but only fine. Any suggestions appreciated. Lastly I have lost weight so many times and while it's more difficult to shift this time I'm really committed to permanent changes happy to loose slowly and to become healthier and hopefully stay that way.

@cherita You have so much more choice in terms of food than here it's one thing I love about the states. However that's prob a bad thing too in a way. I'm trying to avoid aspartame I have given up Diet Coke I loved it so much but I get migraines and I really do think the aspartame was a trigger. It's sparkling water for me now getting used to it chilled is good and a slice of lemon/lime is even nicer. Since I got my Fitbit and I'm logging my intake I'm much more conscious of my water intake. Do you guys log food? It can be tedious but I find that if I'm close to going over being aware of it can help motivate me to stop eating. Don't get me wrong if I want something I will have it I'm such an emotional eater good news eat bad news eat I'm trying to break that cycle.
