looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I'm turning 55 around the holidays, and I could stand to lose about 25-30 lbs.  I've had my fitbit for almost a month, and it turns out that I move MUCH more than I thought I did.  It is easy for me to burn far more calories than I eat just in the course of my Mommy/Household work, but I haven't lost any weight.  It's more than just calories - and this is not much of a surprise.  But I am about to start doing exercise "surges" which is like intervals but more intense, but for shorter periods.  That will hopefully get some weight off of the bod.  The other thing that is on my near horizon is that I'm going back to school full time for an entirely new professional direction, so it will be more challenging for me to get all my movement in each day.  I'm seriously looking forward to getting a healthier body back and to maintaining good energy.  I already have healthy eating habits, so it is really about MOVING.

A couple of folks have asked about joining the group.   These instructions were in an earlier post, "If you want to share your steps and see how others are doing you can click on the person's name on one of their posts. Then in the upper left by the profile picture click on go to profile. Once at profile, in the same area it will have add friend button." I haven't done that yet but do check in on the posts each day and get alot of motivation to keep with the program by knowing so many others are working hard at meeting their goals for daily steps and food plan if they are trying to lose weight.

I got my Fitbit in mid-August. So far I've lost 20 lbs and have gone from
walking about 3,000 steps a day to averaging over 20,000. I feel great. I
still have a lot of weight to lose, but I feel like I'm on my way. The
challenges we have in the group are great motivators. If you use the cell
phone app, there are also challenges you can set up with Fitbit friends.
They are available in daily, weekend, and 5 day work week challenges. I was
in a weekend one this last weekend that drove me to earning both my 45,000
and 50,000 step badges on Saturday. BTW I came in 2nd, so someone was more
motivated than me. I'm excited about you joining our group.

Wow, that sounds fantastic. My normal activities have me walking between
5,000 to 10,000 steps and doing about 5-20 staircases. 20,000 would up my
game in a big way! Once I'm in school, I will have to be much more
thoughtful about how to get all of this in.

Wow I have to try rinsing immediately after each meal and see if my urge to
keep eating eases up. Thank for sharing the discovery!

I will be a student! I've been at home with my girls virtually full-time
for about 12 years, and before that I was in the corporate world in my 30s,
and before that I ran non-profit organizations. Earlier in my 20s, I did
more artistic things for a living, (singing, dancing, and sewing/design),
and now in my 50s, I'm going back to making money with some of my
creative/artistic bend. I will be training to become a cosmetologist with a
focus on hair styling and coloring, and on makeup artistry and skin care. I
have plans to start my own studio after a few years, and I've been doing
lots of research on ways to create a different type of studio. School is
full time, 9-5 classroom and practical application for a year, then a
licensing exam, and then I get a job somewhere and work mostly on commission
and start getting a clientele. Yowza. I've been already meeting with salon
owners in my area who I find interesting, and I'll probably work with 2 or 3
of those places when I get licensed at the end of 2015. I LOVE thinking out
of the box, and coming up with different ideas for my business, and my
wheels are cranking big time already.

Hi .... i love my fitbit ! i only had it for a couple of weeks! Yes i take
more steps than i though i did as well. It is all about moving &
exercising. just doing everyday running around just isn't enough! It
took me awhile to figure that out pumping up your exercises with surges of
energy will help a lot!

That is quite incredible - and to hear that it is easier than I would think
is mind blowing given what I have experienced over the past 12 years. I
would love to hear any tips and hints you might have!!
