Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

March is calling u why wait for April is secure your health. Diabetes is hugely aweful so avoid it like the plague. Dr Joel Fuhrman has a website and has written End to Diabetes and has yummy healthy food cookbooks. His info is for pre diabetes as well. He likes greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries, seeds and nuts.
Reduce carbs especially white rice, white flour, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. Instead you can eat LOTS of veggies, the non starchy kind, beans and lentils, 3 oz of poultry, or meat, and fish.
Salads can be the main meal. Home made tomato sauce without sugar. Whole grains, in small portions, quinoa. faro, etc.. Fruit. Do you know about the glycemic index.? It rates food by sugar content and we are trying to go for the lower numbers on this scale. It is online.
Processed and fast foods are the killers. You absolutely can reverse this disease with food logging and exercise like dancing & walking. Join us on the road to better health. Start today as you are worth it I bet.

carie
we need 7-8 hrs a night or it makes it harder to fight off bugs and to lose weight or think clearly. Our willingness to listen to the wise part of our brain drops too.
Eating larger meal at lunch gives us less to burn after dinner. A salad can be the main dish.
Best of health to you,
Barbara G

Hi Stacy
Dance to your favorite music instead or walk round and round instead to make your step goal. Classes like zumba or aerobic dance are fun. For me almost any kind of dance is fun. DVD of exercise classes are helpful too. Set your goal and make it everyday unless you are sick in bed. It is wonderful to succeed at it and will lead to weight loss and health if you eat healthy foods too. Logging the food totally helps.
Best,
Barbara

A large meal at lunch doesn't work for me.
As to sleep...it would be nice to get 7-8 hours a night but tell that to the neighbour who starts the snow blower at 6am before work or the garbage truck that goes by at 630am on Wednesdays etc. I get awakened and that's it...I'm up.
Very frustrating to be unable to get the sleep you need.
Last night I ate as usual with no crash immediately. I think I'm just tired and the food lulls me further into sleep. I can only fight through it. Last night was up until 3am. No alarms so I slept late today.
I'm thinking of putting a bed in my office..it's a quieter room!
Tomorrow is weigh in day for me...I appear to be somewhat smaller..wonder if the scale will agree.
All I know is I can't eat any less. I am at a place where the number of calories keeps me from being starving...any less and I'd be hungry and I absolutely cannot sleep hungry!
Cheers

Anyone have a magic bullet 900? I am thinking of getting one as they are being sold on HSN and it looked really good. Has a recipe book for lots of healthy smoothies. I don't eat as many veggies and fruit as I should. Please let me know if you have one and how you like it. Thanks

Yes, I have th 900 and love it. I use it everyday. It does a great job with frozen fruits and veggies and some liquid. It really grinds very fine. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Carie
Quiet office room with ear plug may do the trick. Wouldn't that be sweet to awake rested.
All the best,
Barb

Hi;
This was weigh in day and I'm down .3 lbs. Gee whiz this is excruciatingly slow!
I will carry on though...hopefully more steps this week as I now have my car to drive to the gym.
It is sooooo cold. I left my winter coat at my sister's house 6 hours away.
I want to walk on the trail but there is no way.
I will not give up. Nearly 5 lbs in 4 weeks. Sure that's not terrible.

Oh I've been at this long enough not to worry too much about scale.
I thought it was a pretty good total.
I used the fit bit to log food and all other things. It's helpful.
Time to work! cheers

I agree sometimes that scale is your friend and then other times............not so much
I know I am doing something right when I feel good, my clothes are fitting different, scale is last check.
But I do log all my intake

Hey CarieMe, tell me about it........I've been sitting at 178 lbs for the last 10 days. I walk anywhere between 18,000 and 21,000 steps a day (last Monday was 28,000 steps (moved a snowbank from one side of my yard to the other)). So it baffles me that the pounds aren't coming off. I literally walk 6 miles a day - 3 miles one way and 3 miles back (10 kms). I must be turning fat to muscle. My diet is good - protein and greens, and water, of course.
It is very cold here today, minus 24 celsius with the winds out of the NW at 35 gusting to 42 km/h. I will dress appropriately, meaning I wear layers of clothing as opposed to a winter jacket. I can't afford mitts so I use 3 pairs of wool socks on each hand. Sometimes I overdress (safe than sorry), and throw a scarf on a tree branch, pair of socks on another branch.....pick 'em up on the return trip.
The roads are treacherous in some places, which means I take baby steps and then widen my stride when I hit a clearing. I must be able to walk a mile (1.6 kms) in 16 minutes or less. Yesterday, in the biting cold, I did 3 miles in 49 minutes - one minute shy of 16 minutes/mile. I need only to focus on the first mile, but I push myself for the first 3 miles and then slow it down on the return walk.
Anyways, I put the weigh scale under the middle of the bed after I weighed in at 178.4 for the 10th day in a row. Yesterday being March 1, I'll pull the scale out March 31st. I have noticed that my jeans are looser.........makes up for lack of weight loss.
Your 5lbs. in 4 weeks is pretty darn good. Hope I can achieve that by end of March. I'll let you know.

I am not walking in the cold either! You deserve a medal!
Keep the moving though...I'm thinking of doing some stairs here in the house...I have a small house but it has stairs..two sets...starting slowly I think I'm going to do several sets an hour. Start small and work up.
I have a knee issue that has just resolved and I can walk up steps now again. I'm going to do it.
Yep..I need more steps. I'm going to do at least ten ups and downs a day. I now do maybe 3.
A plan..that's what I need!
I am very happy with my almost 5lbs gone.
Cheers

Are you logging your food ? Are your calories consumed at least 500 less than those burned?
Are you under a lot of stress as the cortisol blocks weight loss.? Have you had your thyroid tested recently?
Scale under bed is a good idea for a while.
Persistence furthers. Iching saying.
