looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Thanks Julia.  I know it's tough.  I have been working out almost every day now for about a week, yet I've only lost 1 pound.  I know it's got to be the amount of food I eat.  The problem is, the more I work out, the hungrier I get.  I do pick good choices, but I also tend to overeat because I love food so much.  I did this before, and lost 30 lbs., but gained it all back.  I just need the encouragement through friends on this site!

I hav been doing FitBit since Christmas. I have lost some inches but got on the scale yesterday and it has not moved. I think I need to start jucing more and give up eating. I have been making smarter choices but it seems to be not working. I am getting frustrated. So, it is a new week lets see if I can get more waling in and less eating. I do like food way too much. Has anyone in this forum lost weight with their Fitbit?  Please let me know what you are doing to get the weight off. Please any suggestions.

To the newcomers...I know how tough it is, I couldn't lose weight after trying countless times in the past 15 years. I have finally come up with the successful formula for myself, and maybe it will help you also. For me, it's not just diet and not just exercise, I have to combine both and add lots of water. I am 5' 3-3/4" and started being serious about losing weight this past September. I learned that I need to increase my protien and healthy fats, and eat every 2-3 hours (no more than 4 hours between meals), cut down on sugar to stop the cravings for sweets. I try to eat 1400 calories/day and exercise EVERY DAY (this is where my fitbit is so important). I began my walking goal of 8500 steps/day and am now up to 11000/day and most days a bit more. I have lost 27.6 lbs since September and have gone down from a size 14 jean to size 10.

My weight is coming off very slowly, some weeks I see no loss and on a good week about 1 lb., but it is coming off. I do alot of challenges and have found that I am very competitive and so are my friends. It helps to keep me moving.

Good Luck to you all!

I have only had my fitbit zip for a month now.  I am using myfitnesspal to track my food and, very important for me -- my water consumption.  I am down a total of 13 lbs. since February but find that tracking my walking helps keep me motivated.  Myfitnesspal is easy to use and syncs with my fitbit.

Keep working on it -- one step at a time!  and we will all get to our goals if we stay focused.

Juli Hi I have lost inches (2 pants size) and somewhere around 9 lbs since end of Jan when i started. The safe way to lose is not more then 1-2 lbs a week and in the beginning you might not see anything. I felt different but did not see any changes till like week 8. I also am weightlifting 4 times a week, so I am also building muscle which weights more, but helps to burn calories also. I have made changes to my diet more protein so it is more than carbohydrates and have cut down (not out) carbs. Like breads and pastas I eat fewer of those and have put in more fish and chicken. I am not restricted on my fitbit, and take in about 1700 calories a day with 10,000 steps and weight lifting 4 times a week. This is not too much food as a matter of fact and usually take less in then what my fitbit calorie intake recommends. I also log all of my food. Don't focus so much on the scale, but how you feel and your clothes. If you want to know actual results it is better to tape, typically waist, hips, chest and other areas if you like, but not more than once a month. It comes off slow and in the beginning can be frustrating, but after you get into a groove, its routine and you want to do it more.

Thanks for the positive help here.  I do feel better, and slimmer, but just don't see it on the scale.  yes, I guess I better get out that old measuring tape and check things that way!  Thanks again! karenB

I'm brand new, 58 and also have 30lbs to lose. Would love to have the support of a group, always struggled along on my own, so this could really help me, and would also like to be an encouragement to others.

I started out gung-ho and somehow let it all fly out the window so now the 30 I started with has become 40 pounds to loose. BUT I WILL CONTINUE. I'm in Florida so I really can't use the it's too hot, since it's always hot. We can do this, I have faith.

It's taken me a looong time to get past the, "I'll take this weight off quickly and be fit" to realize it needs to be a longer time commitment. Ah the wisdom of aging. My 60th birthday is fast approaching and I am committed to make these changes and living a healthier lifestyle.

Way to go Judy!  I'm 50 and I sit at computer all day as a bookkeeper.  I have a tendency to walk fast where ever I go.  This is a great start for all of us.  Good luck!

Yes night time is an easy time to nibble on everything.  I love desserts, that's my downfall.  Try to eat that in moderation but it's tough sometimes.  I'm really paying attention to how much water I drink and am drinking more of that.  Good luck & here's to a great start!!

10,000 steps a day is that even possible for a normal person.  I'm 61 work out 6x a wk for at least 30 min's walk my dogs 2-3 x's a wk weather providing and work on call as a sub (helping in classrooms) I am presently 160lbs and would love to see 135 w/o looking weak and flabby so I'm doing it slowly.  I have been very undeciplined with the food intake and realize that intake is 80% of the equation and 20% is exercise.  At my rate I feel like I'm gonna have to w/o 4 hrs a day and starve........can u hear the frustration

Yes 10000 steps is very doable. You get up an hour earlier than usual in the am or 1/2 hour in am and 1/2 hour pm and walk 3  miles an hour on treadmill or outside. That will get you around 7000 steps. Your daily activity will add to that. If you go to the store, park as far away from the door as you can. During commercials on tv, get up and walk around your house. It is very easy to get 10000 if you set your mind to it. You CAN do it. Happy stepping!!Yooper Annie
