looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Hello Tina. I had the same goal. I got my fitbit in March and it has helped. I have lost 25 lbs since last November. I am on the slow but sure weight loss plan. Just keep with it and it will come off. Lots of exercise and a reformed diet plan and the weight will come off.

Thank you! I am riding my bike to work and do bike trails with the family on the weekends so I am hoping this will help!

Welcome Tina, this is a great group. You will find lots of friends to support and encourage you here. I have had my Fitbit since January and I love it and this group as well. You can do this ☺

Riding my bike is helping with the exercise part but its my diet that I struggle with. Often as a nurse on the floor we do not get regular breaks or are eating on the run which is not very healthy. I do well at home but not so great at work.

how do you keep motivated to exercise? I get my steps in every day. I do a women's boot camp three times a week but need to do cardio on my off days.  i am not motivated to do any workouts.

It is hard when you have a job like that where you have so little control over your own time. Are you able to bring "lunches" with you? Maybe small snacks like fruit or hard boiled eggs? That type of thing that you could grab a bite here or there on the run? Probably a stupid question but you never know... The bike riding will definitely help but it's alot harder with the food issue..

I packed a peanut butter and sugar free jam sandwich on deli round bread (which the bread is only 100 calories) for almost 4 months when I was working. Drank water or diet pop (once in awhile). If you don't plan ahead you will go off course.Yooper Annie

I find that planning my food is crucial and protein to curb hunger. I pack almonds, peanut butter on rice cakes, cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs and low sodium deli turkey, I divide and
Pack them into portions and eat something every few hours. It helps to keep me from over eating or making poor choices. I limit my sugar intake which has helped curb my sweet tooth. Good luck

Yes we bring lunches and some days we get breaks but when it is busy and I am in a labor room I just have enough time to grab something real quick. The problem is when I'm done work I am famshied and want to eat everything in site.

Hi, just got my FitBit this week too.I am 50 and need to lose 60 pounds. Have tried all kinds of diets and have trouble keeping motivated for success.  Have been wearing my tracker for 3 days and I find it motivates me to move because I want to achieve 10000 steps/day.Who knew the secret to keep me moving was gadgets?? I work in an office too and am finding that I am getting up more than I was because I am very conscious about how my day will look on my dashboard. So I guess that is success!! Now if my tracker would only reach out and slap me when I snack at night, I would be all set!!I saw someone post about eating popcorn, thank you! That's a great idea.

if you are eating on the run, you could try bringing small snake, like nuts, carrots, orange slices, small apples, protein shakes, bananas, bell pepper slices, maybe if you are into juicing prepare yourself one in the morning so you can get some of your fill of fruits and or veggies. not sure if it is helpful or not.

Hi Grace I too am starting with a new outlook with my fitbit. I was not using the dashboard or logging my food which was a mistake. I am now logging daily and trying to be more careful of what I eat. Lots of good support and very nice people here to help you. Good luck and you can add me as a friend if you would like.

Hi Deb thank you so much for the encouragement! I worked12hrs last night and when I got up today we took the dogs to the dog park for some extra walking before I go into work tonight. Also did a lap around the hospital last night at 4AM. I am takingeveryone's advice and taking more smaller handful grab and go snacks to work instead of a bigger meal. Hopefully this way I can stay on track better. Congratulations on your steps this week I see you are over 116,000. You should be proud of yourself!!

Hi everyone, just walked my first 10000 + steps today!! So happy I pushed myself. Loved reading through everyone's posts. I have some great ideas now for snacks and lunches. I also find that a can of tuna mixed with some  shredded cabbage or broccoli (the kind you buy in a bag pre-shredded) with some balsamic vinegar mixed in makes a nice salad with a great crunch to it if anyone wants to try it.
