Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

STEPS x STRIDE = DISTANCE"
Thanks, lorrpb!

I'm not in the group but I get the messages in email. So I can't see where I would be on the steps chart or anything like that.

I just got my fitbit zip and I was wondering how you get 10,000 steps. I read it doesn't do good on a treadmill.

Pre-Fitbit, I used to try to be as efficient as possible, not making more trips than necessary to get something done. Post-Fitbit, I do the opposite. Instead of carrying five items from, say, the bedroom to the laundry room, I now make five trips carrying only one item each time. I also no longer look for the closest parking space when I go shopping. And if I've popped something in the microwave to heat up, I won't just stand there waiting for it, I go walking through the house for those few minutes. Instead of taking the garbage and recycling out at the same time, I make two trips. Little things like that and the steps add up quickly.

Ressie, I would love to be a workout buddie. I am retired at 56 from teaching and I volunteer at Alzheimer's Association. I had the honor of being able to take an 8 week leave from teaching before my mom in her later stages of dementia when you went from assisted living to 24 hour care. I was at her side 5 hours a day to acclimate her to the place and help her make friends, provide companionship, and just be there to be sure you got the best care possible. She is gone now as of a year ago at 85. I commend you for taking care of you grandmother. It is a big committment and caregivers need breaks too. Keep up the walking, running, whatever you do to get your steps in. It helps with the stress.

I know your post is almost a year old, but congrats on the weightloss from when you posted in September 2014. I too have trouble maintaining weight I have lost pretty much my entire life, but I hope to stop that now that I have retired and am trying to get some balance in my life between voluteering, walking dogs for a living, and paying attention to me (what a concept after 29 years of teaching college English). I am 56. Would love another weight loss/walking challenge buddy 😃

I am days away of being 50 and I want to start off on the right track. I have been with Fitbit for several months and I am in relatively good shape. I plan to keep that way. I love the way this small tool motivates me to move everyday! My goal is 10,000 steps or better each day. I am ready to dive into this new decade and make it one of the best ever!

I average 10,000 steps on most days by just jogging in place, dancing to music around the house, walking the dog or taking a walk outside or on a track. The options are limited. You will surprise yourself as you work from one goal to the next. If you are not use to walking then you could make a smaller goal of 5,000 steps. sometimes I find myself so close to my goal that I will jog in place until I see the number I want. Enjoy the journey.
