Hi! I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support. I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs. My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.
Anyone?

I have read so many books on health that I cant stand another one! But what I have found that works is to take ideas out of the the realy good ones and incorporate them in my life. I have a goal to loose 25 lb but have set my goal at 10 lb increments.
It is a mind over mater thought process, and it does work, or at least for me.
Congrats on your 5 kilos or 11 pounds.

Yes basically it's kind of a paleo diet but we still eat dairy as well. What a difference it has made. I eat well have more energy, I feel full and do not have the urge to snack between meals like I used to.
I have not gotten a migraine or had to take my acid reflux meds since I have started. I used to toss and turn alot at night and not sleep well. Now I hit the pillow and wake up when the alarm goes off.
And best part of it all I am no longer having hot flashes during the day or night! What a change from before. I love this way of eating!!

One of the books that I use for teaching, as I'm a dietitian/nutritionist practicing in Montreal, is
The Mindful Diet: How to Transform Your Relationship with Food for Lasting Weight Loss and Vibrant…

Scribner | April 7, 2015 | Hardcover.
It's not your everyday advice of using smaller plates or putting your fork down between bites;
As there's no one way to eat and as our emotions, responsibilities, etc get in the way of our best intentions, this book could be helpful along with

Hi!
I just turned 50 and received a fitbit charge HR for my birthday. Can you say "Get in shape, Mom". But I love it and I haven't synced in a while so I will do so when I get home. Great to see other women taking control of their health!

Hi everyone, I am going to be 54 very soon. I am 120 lbs overweight. My recent blood work showed my blood glucose levels were high, A1c is showing prediabetes by 1/10 of a point! I at that moment decided that this is one diagnosis I can control and refuse to have type 2 diabetes added to my list of medical diagnosis. I went out bought a monitor and quit eating sugar and simple carbs (boy was I on a long term binge). I didn't realize how crappy I had been feeling until day 3 and noticed that I wasn't feeling shaky and I felt better all around. Today is day 10 and my mental fog is gone too! fasitng blood sugar levels are now in the 110 or less. I have lost 6 lbs. My daughter bought my fitbit and gave it to me last night said it was a grandparents day gift (love her so much!). I love it so far. I hope to connect with you as I will need support and motivation at times. I am also a great motivator!
Thanks!

I just got my lab results back from blood drawn last week. After two months of eating healthy (no processed carbs or simple sugars, eating healthy proteins and fats with every meal, and tons of veggies; and also eating muuuuuch smaller portions) every single value on my labs is now in the "perfect-keep-doing-what-you're-doing" range.
Prior to this, I had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. So much so that the doc I was seeing at the time wanted to put me on statins. I told her I wanted to try changing my diet first. Well, it worked. And it worked fabulously. I've also lost 25 pounds. I've got another 50 to go, but now I know I'll be successful at it.

Congratulations!!! What a fabulous non-scale victory that is!!! Keep doing what you're doing!!! Yeah!!!! I am so happy for you!!
And I also have another 40-50 lbs to lose! Let's do this together!!! We can absolutely get through this! My goal is to lose 20 by New Years and 25 by May 2016. That's the ultimate goal. Going for fit, not skinny!
Cheers
Birgit

It's so nice to have family and friends support on this journty of a healthier life. Please feel free to add me to your friend list and communicate as often as need be. I lost almost 50lbs 2 years ago on weight watchers but gained 25lb back. I am now sitting at 68.9lbs to my goal. This has been an awesome start so far for me (2 1/2 days) and my HR Charge is like a little secret weapon I found to keep me on track along with reading and communicating with wonderful people. So when I feel like being lazy or grabbing the wrong food I just log on here to get inspired. I'm still trying to figure out how to "add" friends but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon.

Turning 56 next week, needing to lose at least 40 pounds, just got my fitbit and am looking forward to all the help I can get! Like to walk, so am excited to achieve the goal of 10,000 steps a day. Am also changing my families eating habits by incorporating more vegatables and less desserts. Work at a desk all day, so realize that is some of the battle as well - looking to change up my life!

Hello ladies, I want to join! I turned 50 in May. After many years of up and down weight and being mostly sedentary and 40 lbs over for the last 7 years, I am finally motivated. What did it? A combination between a 226 cholesterol in June and my doctor using the statin word (and I once had a doctor tell me my cholesterol was so low I could eat a stick of butter a day), my eye doctor telling me in July that my retinas were showing pre-diabetes, my bone density test telling me I was osteopenic (so I can no longer put off lifting weights), weighing 174 at my doctor's on July 24 (174!), a wonderful wellness talk by the author of Should You Fire Your Doctor? at a nursing conference in early August and my 17 year old son who is now a vegan and aspiring marathoner prodding me to eat a lot more vegetables and less cream/sugar/cheese. It's taken a lot but I am changing my eating, found my way back to the YMCA, am logging my food on Fitbit and have lost 12 pounds in the last month! I have 27 to go. I've been bummed at several of the Fitbit manual logging pages going away just a few weeks after I really started to use them but have decided I cannot use that as an excuse and I think this group could be wonderful. (And I need motivation to up my steps again, often only 1000-5000/day lately).
