looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

Wow!  Congratulation!  I have about 30 pounds to lose and you make it sound doable with a little commitment and hard work!

I agree with you. I find using the bar code app for myfitnesspal and fitbit very helpful in seeing what calories etc. you are ingesting.

Hi I am 55 soon to be 56 and I have psoriatic arthritic which means my feet are in severe pain every minute of every day.  I bought a fitbit Sept 1.  I am so happy that is motivates me to walk through the pain and keep going!!  I have lost about 5 lbs! and have greatly increased my water intake.Smiley Happy

Hi I am definitely not an expert on losing, but have noticed the better I keep track of what I am eating the better I do with losing. After you get into logging on a daily basis it really is not that hard. If you really want to lose weight you have to put yourself first and your weight loss as well so doing the extra like logging food will help and keep you under control. I have lost 25lbs and have 40 to go, but although I am stuck at these 25 and have been a while, at least I have not gained.

Hi There,  I am on a gluten free, dairy free and on a low sugar, salt, carb diet. Not as easy in Ontario Canada because the selection is less. I have had arthritis since young and have fibromyalgia along with a few other autoimmune diseases.  My mother passed away from complications from diabetes and so I am motivated not have that condition as well.  My little dogs really help as far as the walking goes and so does my partner, he has a heart condition so we are trying to keep each other as healthy as possible. I am usually around 7,000 steps per day but I have been trying to increase it. It takes time to make it happen, maybe I am too slow...lol

I have the gene for psoriatic arthritic, but I have not developed it so far. I do have osteopenia and it difficult sometimes so I can imagine how difficult it can be for you. Congrats for the weight loss.

you should try the Psoriatic Disease group.  I am trying to start a dialoge on food and diet there!  sounds like you have the same issues as I do.

Boy do I know that routine!  In fact it even gets worse than that!  I'm "good" all day, get my 10,000 steps in, eat within my plan, but come 9:00pm watching TV and I seem to blow it almost every day!  Any ideas how to stop this nightly sabotaging of my efforts?

That's my story too! For almost 2 yrs. now I have been trying to lose 30 lbs. I do great all day; get my steps in and more but.... When night time rolls around; time to raid the kitchen!!! Its terrible. So now I am turning the light off in the kitchen. It helps alittle; but some nights....look out!

Hi I am 56 and just lost 32 lbs in 4 months by walking and being on a very low sugar, low salt, low carb diet. I am also allergic to casein so no dairy and gluten.  It is rough but worth being healthy as I lost both my mother and grandmother to diabetes. Although I had lost 25lbs before with using my fitbit I had let depression get the best of me. Feeling better now 🙂 Food is not pain management...DOHhhhhh  I joined Dr Poon's Weight loss clinic but have altered the diet to suit me. MOVING IS KEY !!!  Also don't forget to log activities as House cleaning, floor washing...it all counts!

I have a television that I can see and here from my treadmill.  I watch at least one good show, like The Voice to get me moving.  If you don't have a treadmill just walk in place.

I also do the same thing. I have a TV in front of my treadmill and that's when I watch an hour show that I t-voed. It helps a lot to get me to finish my workout.

Hi Karen,I know from my obsession with trying to lose weight that nighttime eating is not uncommon but no matter what I've read I can't get myself to stop!  I will definitely try turning off the lights.  If you can think of anything else that works for you, please let me know.  It's so frustrating all the efforts from the day wasted every evening!  Help!Lisa

That'd be a good idea for me too, but some time I just can't motivate to do anything else...even read.  I thought about learning to knit or crochet but I don't really like homemade knitted items.I will try staying away from the TV and see if it helps.  Thanks!
