Another Baltimoron, here 😆. I know I could have passed the Seal's entrance exam in the days of my youth (now 60). Good luck on your quest. There are lots of local 5ks and great places to run, for working on your mile pace. I like the lakes around the Columbia area. I have also been working on my pace, and do one longer run (5k+) each week, which I work on increasing, and one shorter run (2 miles). Other days I do rowing, elliptical and fast walking, after I do my strength training, where I try to keep my average heart rate at about 70%-75% of my max for 30-45 minutes. I believe the sustained (non-running) cardio is helping me to better sustain my runs by lowering my average heart rate.

Background on me:

1. Live near Palm Springs, CA and am semi retired.

2. Had been on Fitbit in years past but not really used it the way intended and didn't have a good exercise program either.

3. I am 75 and decided to get healthy last February.  Started at 280 lbs and am currently at 218. Headed to 199.  Had been using a CPAP machine for about 6 years and don't need it now.  There have also been other health benefits but I will leave it at that.

4. Formula for success thus far six months in = low carb, low calorie (1000 -1500 or less a day).  Now power walking at about 115-120 bpm for an hour but started at 30 minutes.

5. Currently experimenting with "fasts" and starting with a daily 18-hour fast (eating period 12 noon- 6pm.) Its just easiest to skip breakfast.  Also starting with resistance training (machines and some at home exercises) not to necessarily build lots of muscles but to strengthen my core and tone up.

So, I am fairly happy with the progress but would appreciate hints and experiences that you have that I may incorporate into my routine. Thanks for reading my story.

Hi everyone! My name is Troye, nice to be here.

  1. Where in the world are you? Why do you want to know? Will you be sending me gifts? Kidding. I'm originally from Bristol but am somewhere else atm because of work.
  2. What is your current health/fitness goal? If my username is not a dead giveaway, I'm trying to lose weight. I am a recovering alcoholic and I'm currently being medicated for a binge-eating disorder. I actually have a different Fitbit account with all my real deets–just created a burner one to maintain a little bit of anonymity.
  3. How do you like to stay fit? Right now, I'm doing a ton of cardio. My fitness trainer does not advise any weights for my current state (I'm on the obese spectrum)
  4. What motivates you? My husband. He has always been healthy and fit–and I've always been insecure of that honestly. I like to say that I make it up with my personality, but not really lol. This man has changed me in a span of a few years–staying with me through the worst moments. When he talks about adopting kids or furbabies my heart swells–I need to live longer, healthier and love him the way he deserves to be loved. Why am I getting emotional lmao.
  5. Favorite guilty pleasure: Baking cookies with my hubby and watching First Dates! LMAO.

Hi, I'm an Australian living in Italy. I paint abstracts - this is a new thing for me. I live in a hilltop city so there are plenty of quality walks around the place. I don't run to preserve the integrity of the prosthesis in my 13 year old full hip replacement. I had injured the hip in a running incident [don't ask!] training up for the Sydney City to Surf 30 years ago. Previously I tried out a cheaper, though well reviewed fitness band, which crashed this week. I have found this type of gadget useful in improving my sleep patterns [I really don't know how that happens cognitively] and easily measuring walks. I set my daily target at 15,000 paces, and achieve that half the time! I reckoned the other device was over-counting. But recently I started recording the distance. The Charge 4, which arrived today 18 hours after I had ordered online, which was pretty impressive,  has a lot of unnecessary apps for my purpose. One app that I looked for was its advertised SPO2 measure, which was on my previous device. That was a COVID-19 monitoring measure on my part, so it is rather annoying to find it is - so far as I can see - unable to be used on a regular independent basis - I checked my levels every night before going to sleep. Apparently it measures the levels throughout the night. I'm in my 70s and in age denial, astonished that I once thought at this age I would be a wreck of a man!
