Fitbitting with "Man's Best Friend" (upload dog photos here)

We live in "Steinbeck country" (Salinas Valley/Monterey County), named after the famous author John Steinbeck. And just as Steinbeck documented his journeys with his beloved dog in "Travels with Charlie", I'm going to photojournal in this thread my "Travels with Melody".

A lot has changed in Salinas since the days of Steinbeck. But some things haven't changed that much. Today we visited the childhood home of Steinbeck, which has been restored to its original beauty.

Down the street from the Steinbeck House is the Steinbeck Public Library, with a bronze statue of the author at the front entrance. I don't think Melody's ever seen a statue before. At first she was puzzled that he didn't greet her - or even flinch one little bit.

Then she surprised me and became downright ornery!

So I took her back to to dog training school for some proper obedience training. Of course, she passed with flying colors.

Adoption is the way to go.  There are so many dogs (and cats) that are in need of good homes.  They may have issues, but they will love you forever.

The Salinas Valley is known for its agriculture and is often referred to as the "salad bowl of the world".

Here are my 2 little rascals.

Lilly is the blonde one, half miniature poodle / half golden retriever.

Here is me and Guiness, half medium sized black poodle and half golden retriever.

Here's my little dude. Meet Jaeger: the world's worst walking buddy. From a leaf in the wind to a bird to a fellow canine across the street, this guy will chase ANYTHING...usually in the opposite direction of where I'm trying to go. Speaking of trying to go, he takes FOR-EV-ER to find his "spot." Every. Time. But I wouldn't have it any other way. 🙂

(He's a Pomeranian/Terrier/Collie mix according to the shelter where we adopted him, but we'll be doing a doggie DNA test to see what other fun stuff might be in our little fluffball.)
