Are One, Zip, Flex good to track runs for cross country?

I have these 3 old Fitbits.  My middle schooler is looking for something to track his runs for cross country.  Which one is best?  Want to start/stop a timer and start/stop a distance tracker.  Will any of these work?

Hi @NikkiShave

Your posts were merged (cross posting is discouraged) and put into this forum area for more responses.

First of all, have you checked to be sure all those devices are up to date and still working? Might need to update the firmware and software on them. The One has been retired.

The Zip and One clip on and could fall off during his run. The Flex is wrist based and probably more secure, but it has no numbers, just light dots.

Does his school have any rules prohibiting the wearing of a fitness tracker? I've heard some schools are more strict than others about them.

What kind of reporting would show?  Even if the Flex 1 only shows dots while wearing what will the App show when he logs in?  The Zip and One.. do they show actual start/stop times?

Yes all the devices have charged and are working.  Although I haven't worn them to see how long the batteries will last but don't need them all day so that should be fine.

My son will be using them for his own personal runs and during practices which is fine.  He won't use them at actual competitions.

Sorry for the multiple posts - thanks for merging.  I tried to post in general boards and the "start discussion" was always disabled until I clicked on a specific product.  That was the thought process... but if this gets the results GREAT!

On the app, it would show his steps, no matter which device he uses.

There is no start and stop, unless the app recognizes an activity and I'm not sure if those do. Maybe one of the awesome moderators will have more to tell you.

@Odyssey13 @NikkiShave It's great to see you in the Fitbit Community.

@NikkiShave The Fitbit One has a timer and it gives a start/stop option but this is used to record sleep. As an alternative solution, I would recommend tracking the runs for cross country through the Fitbit app using Mobilerun. This option is useful to track walks, runs and hiking activities, and at the end of the activity you have access to the map of the route.

I moved this thread to the One board since it is more related to the topic.
