I have been using the FitBit One for more than 2 years. Every now and then it acts buggy, but I’m overall very pleased with it. It has survived wet and muddy obstacle course races, and a washer/dryer cycle. 😮
I’m looking for an alternative when this one finally bites the dust. Is there currently a FitBit with the exact same specs (additional specs are fine, but must have at least what the One offers - floors & readable face, for example, so not the Flex 2 or Zip) that can be converted to an after market clip and still count steps accurately.
If no one can recommend a current FitBit that meets the above requirements, then can you recommend a non-FitBit product? I’d hate to leave FitBit, but if they aren’t considering my needs (and apparently the needs of countless others) then I have to give my business and loyalty to a company that will.

Welcome to the forums!
The Alta HR. But you would need to find something to use as a clip and do not expect the HR to be accurate as its meant for the wrist

I think the Alta HR still does not do flights of stairs.
Maybe a Charge 2/3, but you'll need to get some sort of clip for it. Also know that since they're meant to be worn on the wrist, some things may be off (like the kinds of steps walking vs. running, and caloric burn).

What kind of advanced technology does the One have that wrist FitBits don’t? Needing to swing your arms to count steps sounds a little ridiculous. My activity is mostly hiking. I like to see my distance, active minutes, steps, and floors. A discrete clip would be ideal. But if converting a wrist-worn FitBit to a clip won’t give me an accurate reading then I’m better off with a cereal box pedometer. 🙄

It's not a question of how advanced the technology is... It's a question of Fitbit building their algorithm on each tracker based on how it is meant to be worn.
The Fitbit One and Zip (and Ultra and Classic) are meant to be worn on the torso. So small amounts of bouncing like (leisure walking) will count as steps.
The remaining models are wrist based. So small amounts of bouncing (like wrist movements when you type) should not count as steps.
The Flex 2 is a hybrid model that does both modes, but you need to have their pendant accessory. The pendant accessory has a small magnet that instructs the Flex 2 into tracking in torso/clip-on mode instead of wrist mode.
While on one hand I can see your point... They're counting arm movements instead of actual steps. I can tell you from first hand experience that the numbers from each type of device are actually pretty similar. Sure there are certain gotcha's…. like pushing a cart at the grocery store or walking with a stroller, may not count your steps. But generally, they're calibrated well enough so that they're counting steps and do a pretty good job at it.
That said, if you choose to wear a wrist device as a clip on (not how it was designed to be used). Yes, it'll generally work, but it may detect some running steps as walking and vice versa and that may throw off your caloric burn, active minutes, etc.
If you like hiking, then consider the Ionic. Yes, it's a wrist based tracker, but it'll track all the stats that the One does... plus with the built in GPS, you can track and map your hike:
That was with a Surge, but you'll get the same thing with an Ionic. And there's a similar graph for elevation.

Hi everyone - we created this post to discuss the One Availability and Alternatives. As mentioned there, unfortunately, there are no plans to bring the One back and we do not have any information on future products. Feel free to check the discussion there, I'll be closing this thread as a duplicate.
