Fitbit One Will Not Turn On

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I did an update to Fitbit One Firmware 6.64 per the instruction of Fitbit due to an error I was having turning the fitbit on. After I did the update, the fitbit will not turn on at all. Occasionally when I connect it to the charger, it will say 6.64 and show a full battery level, but every time  I take if off the charger it will not even turn on at all.  I have tried the reset process and endless amount of times and off the charger it will never turn on and it will only turn on occasionally on the charger. I followed the instruction of fitbit and totally deleted the application, created a new profile and started from zero, which they advised me to do to ensure I have the most updated firmware. Well, after that the device will not work at all and I cannot get anywhere with customer support who advised me to follow their process. Anyone with any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I know this is a very simple question for some, and my head just blanked out, but how did you warm up the soldier part to installed the cables?  I'm trying to picture it on my head.

I was offered the discount too and may get the inspire also.  Is it much bigger than the one?

I dislike having to wear something on my wrist.. waste of money even with the discount they offered.

Fitbit killed all the 'ones'

I was thinking of just keeping the tracker part (without the band) in my pocket as I did with the One. I was wondering if the Inspire tracker is  much bigger than the One.  I get a rash from the wristbands.

@Jeri_D Fitbit discontinued the One, the Zip, and other older products. They've not conspired to "kill" the One, they're old devices and LiPo batteries die after a few years.

My one and many others were working great until the last update.. killed them all... the offer was a discount on a new purchase.. yep $$$$

I had the same update as everyone else, but my One is still working and holds the charge for over a week, so your statement of "killed them all" is a bit of an exaggeration.

@Jeri_D consider me the second then. My One works great 🙂

@JimboGooner1 if your One only shows battery when charging, the battery is most likely dead. Even if it sat in a box unused, these batteries die in 3-4 years after manufacture. I had this problem, replaced my battery, and it's been great since 🙂

@IHaveAOne you can try to source working Ones from eBay, Mercari, OfferUp, LetGo or other online marketplaces, or with a soldering iron, replace the battery.

These are your options, outside of buying the new Inspire.

I just updated my Fitbit one and now it will not turn on. If I connect it to the charger it shows a full battery. Once i disconnect  it, it's dead and it's no longer under warranty.  What do I do?

I own two Fitbit One's.  Bought at the same time for me and my wife.  After the upgrade hers quit.  I expect the other will quit soon. I gave mine to her.  The battery shows full after charging but once disconnected it won't display anything.  Batteries don't just suddenly quit. They hold the charge for shorter and shorter times.  The company is obviously crippling them.  A company shouldn't be allowed to do that.  They should at least offer a special promotion for the model One's.

The reason I love the Fitbit One is it is simple and does the three main functions I want: count steps, miles AND stairs.  It fits in my pocket.  Please make the One available again.

@almatl @Miamicanesfan the batteries die. If they show the battery as full when plugged in only, then likely the circuitry functions and the battery is dead. You can see @PureEvil's guide to replacing them. These lithium-ion batteries can and do die after 3-4 years max. Same types in headphones, drones, etc. Additionally, they can also have technical issues, after all, these are devices we bounce around with us for months on end for years. They're worth attempting a repair, especially if they're already not working. The only other option, which does lack stair counting is the Inspire if you want a pocket tracker. Alternatively, there are plenty of good working One's and Zip's on eBay. Look for tested working or refurbished and if you buy new/sealed, it's old stock so make sure there are returns. Cheers!

Williger, thanks for the info.  We did buy the inspire two weeks ago for my wife. Unfortunately we had no idea the company would have removed a feature that was on an older model.  Rather than go through the hassle of returning it, I just swapped mine for hers. Now I don't have the feature of stair counting.  I would like to buy a refurbished one if possible but haven't found a reputable source yet.

Also regarding the battery, I am going to try a test.  I am going to let the battery discharge for a few weeks and then plug it in and see if the charging icon is lower.

OR maybe Fitbit will come out with a new pocket model that is about the same size and weight that counts stairs and I could buy that one.

Hi @almatl, you're welcome. How are you enjoying the Inspire? Did you get with or without HR? Yes, I don't know why they chose to eliminate the step counting feature, I assume it was a cost-savings.

I don't own an Inspire, is it significantly larger than the One?

Regarding sourcing, the best places are online classifieds; Mercari, Bonanza, OfferUp, LetGo, and of course eBay. There are sellers presently with listings for new/old stock, used and working, and refurbished units.

It does appear from this community they'd have a market for a newer "one" but it's been years since it's being discontinued and only the Inspire comes close in being able to be worn on a clip. Cheers!

I have the same issue. My Fitbit One is a few years old but I wanted to start using it again. I bought a charger and it's charged and updated version to 6.64 but it won't turn on. Only turns on when plugged into charger and just shows version number and full battery symbol. Any way to revive this since it's no longer under warranty? I like the portability of it which is why the newer devices don't appeal to me.
