I've just received my fitbit one off eBay it's working and all set up BUT my steps say I've done 40 steps 1 floor etc but my calories say I've burnt 1309 what's going on ???

Congrats on your fitbit one! 

The calorie burn is what you burn naturally, not based on activity/movement.  

It is calculated based on your weight and height.

It's calculating the calories burned since midnight regardless of when you set it up. As @kawaiiko said, the calculation is based on your age, weight and height. It will re-set at midnight.
