Is Fitbit One being discontinued?

For the second time in a year I lost my Fitbit One.  When I go to replace it, I see the major local stores, Target, Walmart, Best Buy no longer carry it and even on Amazon, only the black model readily available.  Is the Fitbit One being discontinued and if so, is it being replaced?

Next thing I know -- her Fitbit is coming free. ??  Not just discounted -- FREE? And she bought hers in 2014!

I was offered the 25% discount for the battery life problem but, being a software developer, I knew it wasn't an issue with the One but an issue with their update.  I pressed them on this and they came back with a free One replacement or 50% off any of their other trackers (except the Ionic). No way I was going to get a wrist-worn tracker, and I didn't want to give them any more money, so I chose the replacement.

While I'm happy I now have a spare, it shows how poorly Fitbit is handling this. Inconsistent offers to customers when they shouldn't have been offering replacements at all because there's nothing wrong with the hardware.

I look at it this way, Fitbit will likely continue to offer software support (as bad as it is currently Smiley Sad) for probably 2-3 years after discontinuation. After that, I still have a good manual tracker until the battery deteriorates. After that I'm hoping their competitors have filled this product hole.

So now am I finding out that I didn't need to replace my original Fitbit One? It would not hold a battery charge over the last few weeks I used it...I was having to charge it just about every day. I figured that since it was several years old, it really did need to be replaced. So I spent the $100 to order a new one, waited about three weeks for it to come (it was on back order), then discovered on this forum a couple of days ago that the One is being discontinued??? Wow...I am not going to get my money's worth out of it, am I?

I really do hope Fitbit will recognize that they have customers who need to  use a clip-on tracker instead of wearing one on the wrist, and that they will offer a clip-on that includes sleep tracking.

Awesome!  It's terrific that you posted this--maybe they'll work harder to fix the problem, although maybe they're just trying to get rid of whatever ONE inventory they have left.  Congrats!!!

Oops - they WERE available yesterday (9/27) ....today (the 28th) they appear to be gone and only being sold by 3rd party sellers for ridiculous prices.

Original Post: The Fitbit One is available on Amazon.com again. And the prices for both new ones and used ones have come down a LOT on E-bay.

Just FYI for anyone interested...

Can't say the ZIP is a zero. My wife chooses to use the ZIP because it does
what she wants it to do. /Roy

But it's bulky--and not nearly as streamlined as the ZIP.  Doesn't do what ZIP does, either, which is why it's cheaper, I suppose.

If the Fitbit One is being "retired" and I purchase one will the new one still be supported on the Fitbit website and on the Dashboard and on the app on my phone?

I looked at the Fitbit One's that are for sell on Amazon. Umm, $188 is not in my comfort zone from third party vendors.

Best Answer

Yeah, I hear you. Amazon WAS selling them for like 2 days....now it is just 3rd party vendors charging entirely too much! Harrumph!

....and my hubbie's replacement 25% off Fitbit came today....and my 'free' two spare clips (compensation for not getting a free replacement like my friend did).

Major problem for those of us who, for safety reasons, do not wear jewelry while working. The Zip is not an adequate replacement. Forces me to look elsewhere for a suitable product.

And Fitbit won't support any device not purchased through them...

That’s not true. Since I have my very first Fitbit they have supported it

That is totally incorrect. They have supported all of our family's devices

Well my friend got her Fitbit replaced FREE, that she'd purchased in 2014, and she Told Them she bought it at Best Buy! They're wildly inconsistent.

You're right--as long as the Fitbit product is purchased from an authorized retailer.  They sent me this list.

The Fitbit One is a great product and a reasonable price range for folks  I cannot believe they are discontinuing this product.   My husband and I will not wear a tracker around his wrist and the Fitbit Zip  does not even compare.

Thanks for the info.  I too would certainly be interested if anyone knows of a comparable tracker.  I don't want all the bells and whistles that the other trackers offer, that is why I like the Fitbit One.
