One Availability and Alternatives

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Though Fitbit One is a popular product, as we introduce new products, we occasionally make changes to our product line to keep you on track with the most up-to-date health and fitness tracking tools.

As a result, we no longer sell the One. We recommend considering the other discreet options we offer- Fitbit Zip, if you prefer a clip-based tracker or Fitbit Flex 2 if you prefer a slim, wrist-based tracker. Or, take our quiz on http://www.fitbit.com/compare to see which device meets your needs best.

Please note that we will continue to support the One and, if necessary, provide replacements for devices in warranty.

We do know there are many fans of the One who would like to discuss alternatives and have created this thread for discussion and merged a few posts together. Please keep in mind Community Guidelines when posting.

At this time, feedback has been shared on the One status and there are no plans to bring this particular tracker back at this time, we will not be able to comment further.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope we can continue to provide you with Fitbit trackers you love and help you reach your goals.

I have been a Fitbit person for quite some time now. I started with an original Charge HR, but found that a wrist tracker just wasn’t feasible. The One fit the bill perfectly. Yet, my One died last September. It just stopped tracking my steps. Since I enjoyed the tracker so much, I was going to purchase a new one. But to my astonishment, I found that it was discontinued with no real alternative as the Zip doesn’t come close to having the features of the One.

I realize that most of the population is OK wearing their activity trackers on their wrists, but I also know that I am not the only person who either can’t or prefers not to wear an activity tracker on their wrist. To not have an alternative for those people (sorry Fitbit, the Zip doesn’t count) is poor form and you are missing out on an entire group of people who want to use your product and be a part of the Fitbit community. I am actually shocked that you would turn your back on that group of people and basically force them towards other manufacturers that offer reasonable alternatives to wrist based activity trackers.

I hope you will remedy this in the future and decide to include everyone in your marketing plan. As it stands currently, you truly are missing out on an entire group of people wanting and waiting to be a part of the Fitbit community. Until then I, as well as so many others, will have to look elsewhere to fill the void left by your decision to discontinue what may have been the best alternative to wrist worn activity trackers on the market.

My wife started out with a Fitbit Zip intending to use it simply as a pedometer but even at that it was an outrageously expensive  thing to operate. Using it for 6 months cost nearly as much in replacement batteries as the unit itself cost. Instead of lasting for several months, as claimed, the batteries would be dead after about 2 weeks. Cheap dollar store batteries only lasted hours. After having her Zip replaced with a new unit and having the exact same issue with battery consumption she switched to a One and has been quite happy with it. She is also someone who cannot use a wrist tracker even if she wanted to.

I love my One and am realizing that when it dies, I will need to invest twice as much for another model. I love the sleep tracker on the One and wanted to ask you two questions. Why did you choose the Alta over the Charge 2? Do you like the sleep tracking on the Alta?

Thanks

Hi,
I have the charge and do not like watch trackers. I bought an Alta because I can use a third party holder and make it into a clip on! Still not as good as the one!!

@JEH1  I have (and use) both the One and Charge2. I'd had the One, but couldn't make a complete change to the wrist version ... so I just set up a second profile and wear them both and it's been interesting to compare the two.

People here who are looking for a replacement option for the One (to wear in a clip) the Alta is really the only option. Still missing stairs, which is a deal breaker for many ... at least the Alta is similar in size and cost. (I borrowed my boy's Alta and tried triple tracking for a few days to try out the Alta in a clip. Here's my little blog post about my experiment) https://jenbsjourney.blogspot.com/2017/12/fitbit-one-done-alta-alternative.html

I never wore my One in the wrist strap for sleep. I just clip it to my jammies. If I'm ever lucky enough to be able to grab a nap, the Charge 2 doesn't bother me ... but I can't sleep in it at night.

If you were planning on switching to a wrist model ... the Alta is a little slimmer on the wrist. It does not track stairs and it doesn't have a button to scroll through menu items, you have to "tap" ... I dislike tapping very much. Old Zip users are familiar with this ... you do still have to tap to access some things anyway 😞 but there is a "stopwatch" timer option on the Charge HR that I don't believe the Alta has (which is something I use on my One right now). DT here are two Alta models, one has a HR feature, which the Charge 2 has (which is why I gave the wrist model a try ... I do really like the HR feature). I still don't know why on the original Alta, then can't stick an altimeter in there, as it's the same size as the Alta HR but missing that piece of tech. That has to leave some room, wouldn't you think?

Your options don’t meet my needs. I only want a clip on & the Zip is a piece of garbage.

Scrapjen, what is an "HR feature"?

(I dislike tapping, too.)

Thanks!

Watch the elevator rides as the unit is sensitive to changes in elevation. A ride in an elevator in a three story building will net you 3 flights of stairs if not more, depending on ceiling heights!

@Rossweisse - Sorry, HR means heart rate. All the upper end wrist models have little lights that flash and attempt to track the blood flow in the veins there on the wrist, tracking heart rate, both for exercise and regular resting rate. I like heart rate feedback, but can't stand the chest straps most heart rate devices require. Not sure how accurate it all is, so I take heart rate with a grain of salt, just like step and sleep tracking 😉

Really sorry to see this.  We've been Fitbit users since before the products were actually released (my husband pre-ordered the original).  Now my One won't sync or update at all.  I've been working on getting it fixed for weeks.

I don't like stuff around our wrist.  I have "contact" issues.

The Zip, quite honestly, sucks.  It's a larger profile with minimal information.  Just because we don't want to flaunt our fitness on our wrist doesn't mean we don't like some bells and whistles.

*sigh*  Will have to rethink this fitness tracking thing all together.

Good point. I do have my phone with me when I jog, to listen to music, but it's true I don't have it every step of the day

I don't use my phone for music, either.  I use a Sansa mp3 player.  It clips on, and is weightless.  I have several of them with different music for different activities.  Phones are just too darn cumbersome to carry along.  I leave mine in the locker at the gym.  But I always have on my Fitbit One.

I'm ok with color choice, what I would like to see is a more secure way to attach it. Mine slips off my belt often. If I put in pocket, might forget and wash it. Maybe a small pouch that wraps fully around belt.

There used to be a guy that made & sold Fitbit "Gadget leashes".  I have two of them, and they absolutely solve the issue of slippage.  This is it, and it works great.

But his site has disappeared in the last year, I suppose due to the fact that the One has been discontinued.  It put him out of business I guess. 😞

Yeh. That’s what I figured. The only reason I can see for discontinuing the
One was that they weren’t making enough profit- so why not bump the price a
bit ( no pun intended ).
When I had a Flex, it came apart and this big metal hunk came out. People I
know with the wrist ones seem to have multiple repair issues while the One
just keeps on going.
First they took our sleep data and put it behind a pay wall. Then they did
listen to these forums and put back enough data to let us calculate sleep
efficiency.
I just hope they continue to support the One long enough to see they should
bring it back.

My One is getting old, and I was surprised to see that I can’t buy a new One. I even checked eBay. I wear an Apple Watch, so I don’t want another wristband. I like to wear my One in my pocket to keep up with my Fitbit friends, and I wear it at night to track sleep while my Apple Watch is charging. Sadly, when my One wears out, if getting another One is not an option, I will likely drop Fitbit altogether in favor of my watch.

I tweeted about my altimeter problem, and got a response from Fitbit Support. We shall see if anything comes of it.

I love the gadget connector idea!  I always have my one in my pocket. When it dies I will be switching to Garmin.  This makes me sad.  I have already ordered a third party clip so I am prepared.

As an update, I had a conversation with the Support folks, and my One is now working again.  It appears the problem was that too many devices were connecting to it when I was trying to do the update.  We stopped all but one device from connecting to the One, "rebooted" the One, and then we were able to connect.

Yea, mine is working!
