Sync using FitBit Connect w/o dongle?

Is it possible to sync my One using FitBit Connect w/o using the dongle?  When I try to sync with FitBit Connect, it tells me to plug in the dongle - which I don't want to use.  I can sync via native bluetooth with the Win10 FitBit app, but I much prefer FitBit Connect as it has a service that runs & syncs even when the app isn't booted which means my data is basically always current.

No, I'm afraid you need to use the dongle if you don't want to use the Windows 10 app.

Is there any reason why you don't want to use the dongle?

Another option is to sync to a compatible phone and avoid fitbit connect and the dongle altogether.

My PC is laptop which I carry around constantly and I don't like to have something sticking out of a USB port on it.

I do use the phone app (Windows Phone), but that sync'ing from that is problematic as well as it basically has the same problem as the Win10 app in that I need to boot the app for it to sync.  As soon as I switch to another app on the phone (or soon thereafter, anyway) I get a notification that 'Background syncing stopped:  Open the app to restart syncing'.

So, to summarize:

  • FitBit Connect - syncing 'just works' and is totally seemless and non-obtrusive but only if you use the dongle to sync (which I don't want to do).
  • Win10 app - syncing works without the dongle but only when app is booted.  There's no way to get the app out of your main UI, such as minimizing to the system tray, so this isn't ideal either.
  • Windows Phone app - syncing only works while app is booted and is in foreground which just isn't a realistic scenario for seemless syncing throughout the day.

I guess I'll just need to not rely on having my data sync'd automatically. 😞
