Charge 2 - Not accurate when running

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have noticed that my charge 2 is not accurate, and i can often be running at a pace i feel is faster than is being displayed...  and at the end of the run, the distance is not reliable.

I use my charge 2 for running: (i dont care about steps, calories, food etc)

  • I use connected GPS
  • I have the stride length as automatic
  • I trigger the run from the watch
  • Fitbit syncs to strava

Observations: The distance is not the same as others...using different devices.  I ran a 10k race,, except my watch showed it as 9.5k

I ran a short mid-tempo run, Fitbit says 3.2k - my car and other trackers and online route planners make it 3.9...

MY motivation when running, is to improve, go faster, longer as well as explore new routes. If the distance isnt accurate and i need to check against other methods/ devices... it really seems pointless.

@SunsetRunner Welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here!

Let me help you with your distance calculation. Your device uses the number of steps and stride length to calculate the distance. You can improve the accuracy by measuring and logging your stride length. Feel free to use these instructions to do this. You may also want to refresh the link between your phone and your tracker to improve the GPS signal reception. You can try the following:

  • Go to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there.
  • Restart your phone and restart your device
  • Check that no battery saving app/feature on your phone is affecting your Fitbit app.
  • Also, if you are using an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on.
  • You can find troubleshooting instructions here.

Let me know how it goes.

I use connected GPS, so my understanding is that steps is irrelevant for this.

I ma reluctant to change my stride length, as it will change if i am running, walking, sprinting... - I need to update for each activity type?

I also tried your other suggestions, and no change. When I validated the inaccuracy, one method was the very same GPS on my phone connected GPS uses, as well as driving the route and using a Garmin device.  Do you have any other suggestions. I am using Android

Very disappointing!!!

Ran 8.4 last night, except Strava tells me its 10.16 - I checked it with another tool, and it says 10.2! - I feel like Fitbit is good, when you are getting into measuring your exercise, but once you want to get more accurate, reliable data you need to use something else.

I tried the suggestions above...  seemed to improve... once....  now its back...  wildly inaccurate.

The number of posts about this issue is ridiculous, and the solution to manually calculate strides, to disconnect reconnect, restart your device... etc... i dont want to do that at every use....
I am losing faith in Fitbit.
