I'm curious about how Fitbit calculates calories burned. Today I climbed more stairs, and walked more miles with similar average heartrate when compared to yesterday and every day for the past 3 weeks and yet my calories burned were much lower. I really trust Fitbit to help me balance my calorie intake with calories burned but this result seems spurious. And discouraging... Thanks for your explanation.

@gettingfit2016 Welcome! It's good that the community is growing!
Let me help you with your inquiry. The exact algorithm isn't available as it is proprietary information but in general calories are calculated based on your personal information (weight, age, height, etc.) and your recorded activities. If you find that the calories are too low then check the recorded activities. You can also try manually logging them.
Let me know how it goes.
