Charge 2 doesn't count any steps while on the treadmill

I'm getting so frustrated with this issue. Sometimes I walk on the treadmill at a speed of 4.5-5.5km an hour and my Fitbit doesn't count any steps. I can glance at it several minutes in a row and see the exact same number. I move my arms as I walk and have tried resetting the Fitbit multiple times.

The other day I spent 50 minutes on the treadmill and had only 2600 steps at the end of the day!

Yesterday I tried banging my hand on my leg with each step just to get it to count but I really would prefer not to do this.  don't want to try walking like an elephant as I live in an apartment and want to be quiet for my downstairs neighbour.

Has anyone else had this experience? I have searched this forum and tried the reset to no avail.

@ParisCat Thanks for stopping by! Sorry for the delay in my reply

Let me help you with your Charge 2 not counting your steps while on the treadmill and thank you for troubleshooting this isue. As you know your Your device will detect the movement on your arm and translate that movement into steps. There are situations in which your arm may be still but you could be moving or walking. This may happen when you are pushing a cart or holding bars while walking or using a treadmill. For added sensitivity you can try wearing your device on your dominant hand but select that hand as non dominant on the device’s settings to make it more sensitive to movement. Also make sure your hands are moving (doing the same motion you do when you walk outside) so the device can properly track your steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have started wearing my Fitbit on my ankle when I go on the treadmill. It
is not particularly comfortable but at least it counts my steps correctly.

@ParisCat thank you for the update.

Although the Charge 2 wasn't designed to worn on your ankle I do hope this works for you. You can use a sport band over it so it doesn't fall easily and you can do your exercise more comfortable.

I'll be around!
