Charge 2 screen says fitbit.com/setup

I charged my Fitbit Charge 2 last night but this morning the screen just shows the fitbit logo with the text www.fitbit.com/setup

It also won't sync to my phone.  What's going on?

I haven't migrated to a Google account yet as I have a personalised Gmail address that is unsupported.

Same thing happened to me last night. I tried to re-setup my charge2, but during setup, the update button wouldn’t work. Now my Fitbit display just shows “!”. It still sync’s to the app, but the display no longer works. Chat support couldn’t help me and said my charge2 is too old to update. I’m really aggravated at this. My Fitbit was just working and only needed to be charged. Instead, it seems as though Fitbit have bricked my Charge2 and are telling me there is no way to recover it. If you manage to get through the setup enough to get your device connected, I would suggest trying to avoid attempting any update if given the option. Unless someone has a way to recover the display function that Fitbit didn’t tell me about, you may not get your display to work again.

I am having exactly the same problem as chrd2nomore and have tried everything. In the phone fitbit app it wants you to update to a paid subscription and there is no way around that short of paying their fees and then trying to cancel your auto pay subscription. Have read other post saying they were unable to cancel subscriptions and could get no help from Google or fitbit. I will probably have to jumk my charge2 and buy a new devise but after this it won't be a fitbit.
