Charge 2 stops tracking excersize and connected gps missing

For a while now, my Charge 2 has randomly stopped my runs/walks at some point, usually around the 5 minute mark. There is no results screen, nothing, it just jumps back to clock screen. Restarts haven't helped, there is no update available. I haven't noticed this behaviour for eg spinning. So now my run consists of ~5 snippets of it when I realise it has stopped, meaning the data is completely meaningless. As an insult to injury, it crashed the cardio fitness score by almost two categories. Restarts haven't helped, there is no update available. I haven't noticed this behaviour for eg spinning. Which is why I figure it might be related to my gps issue.

My connected gps works maybe 30% of the time. There is no connection error or check phone notification. In fact, there is not even the phone icon. Seems like it isn't even trying to connect. The phone seems to have decent signal, as other tracking apps have no issues with my routes (and I've swapped to those for now). I can get it back to attempting to connect by removing and readding the excersizes... sometimes. It might work, it might not, usually takes handful of attemps to get it back to connecting. But since the run excersize randomly cuts off regardless of connection, that doesn't fix it.

Fitbit has all permissions (Android), I get the pop-up that service is running (if it will run this time) and map seems good for the part I do have it. I've reinstalled the app, removed and readded the device, restarted... Connected gps is chosen for Run, because it actually refuses being turned off. But this behaviour has made tracking runs outside auto recognition pointless... I really don't know what to try next.

I've considered upgrading to newer model for more options, but looking at the forums it seems similar issues are longstanding there as well.
