Charge 3 001 error

Received 001 error.  Plugged in to charger to soft reset.  After holding in button for 8 seconds, straight line displayed as if tracking progress.  Line was all the way across screen for several minutes,  then screen went black.  No response when pressing button while attached to charger.  Unplugged and pressed button but no response.  Now what?

Please try changing your Charge 3 clock face and  the long restart.

I tried changing my clockface, but since the charge 3 will not sync I am stuck in an endless loop on my phone of the clock trying to change. There does not seem to be a way out of this endless loop, so my phone battery is just going down fast. When I try the long restart, it just restarts with the 001 error again. If you know a way out of the endless loop of trying to change the clockface on my phone, I would be most appreciative.
