8/14 Update: We are continuing to roll out the firmware update for Charge 3 and expect more users will see it as available. This is a progressive rollout, and all customers can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed. If you don't see the option to update, don't worry - you'll have it soon!

Please use this thread to share your experience updating the firmware once it's received. If you have a different inquiry, please post in a thread with a similar topic or create a new post.

7/23 Update: the firmware update has only rolled out to a small percentage of users, and will roll out further next week. It should be rolling out to everyone soon. Thanks for your patience and interest, we look forward to hearing your feedback on the new firmware.

We've begun releasing new firmware (1.88.11) for Charge 3 to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CHARGE 3 FIRMWARE UPDATE: ALARMS CLEARED

We moved where you set alarms from the Fitbit app to your wrist! After you update, any alarms set will be cleared and need to set up again on the device.

To make sure you don't miss an important alarm, open the Alarms app on Charge 3 and tap *+ Set up a new alarm*. Tap the checkmark to save and make sure it’s set.

This update screwed up my Fitbit. Now it shakes and screen flashes on and off. Tried to reset it, but continues with problems. I called customer support and they weren’t able to troubleshoot the problem and because my Fitbit is over a year old, they wouldn’t honor any type of warranty. It’s less than two years old! They should have better customer care for faulty products. Very dissatisfied with the Charge 3 - don’t do software updates if it’s going to break your own product Fitbit and then you don’t back what it breaks.

is great and all but the Fitbit Charge 3 STILL does not keep the correct time and sets me to Pacific multiple times a day (I am in Eastern), so for me...still a huge FAIL. What's the point of a watch that can't keep the correct time....

Best Answer
Interesting. That happened once for me soon after I bought it, but not since then.

Kate from Fitbit hasn't posted anything in this thread since 7/23, so who knows what is going on with this update. I question whether anyone actually received this besides the 1 person that was part of the beta testing. I think the other 2 people in this thread that said they did are probably confused.

Anyone here actually not keeping "an eye" on their app looking for the update? I know since I saw it announced I've been refreshing my app a lot more than usual...

Lol. I beg to differ. I am not confused at all. I received the updated as
confirmed in the app when checking my current firmware release.

I'm not sure why people are so excited about this firmware release? I've
been reading this thread and have seen a bunch of "I can't wait to get it"
comments. Not sure why anyone would be excited to get software that is
going to cause your device to cease to function.

Maybe I got it because I bought it when it first came out. Like the first
week. 3 devices later (original plus 2warranty replacements), this release
was the final mail in the coffin of mine.

Obviously there are issues with the device and most likely with this share
release. I'm taking Fitbit's silence as evidence of that.

I've moved on. My Samsung Active watch 2 arrives tomorrow. Good luck to all
of you and a piece of advice, I would not rush to get this update if I
were you. It's not going to fix anything.

@Nolefan32 Totally agree it's a big tease. Basically the same happened for the SpO2 release (estimated oxygen variation). That took Fitbit 1+ year to release it.

Fingers crossed when we could all get this new firmware with new features. Some of the features (e.g. agenda) were actually promised 1+ year ago, too.

@LizzyFitbit If there's no time frame for this release, why was it announced? Is there any known issue about the new firmeware that it was pulled back or something? I don't think it's a good idea to keep fitbit users in the dark.

Don't forget the screen timeout adjustability setting was originally included in the Charge 3 manual. You can search for that topic here & see Fitbit's solution was to simply remove "the incorrect image from the manual."

Just successfully installed the update.

Slight moment of stress when it looked like the update had wiped all today's data. Steps, distance, calories all reset to zero.

Fortunately, after about 5 minutes or so the data returned.

No other issues so far.

I updated my Charge 3 earlier today and no longer have ‘alarms’ anywhere on my app. How do I get this back so I can set my silent alarms?

I believe in the update notes it indicates alarms will be moved to being set on the band & no longer in the app.

How did you update your charge 3

Thank you I finally figured it out, and  can honestly say that I do not like it. Rolling it up-and-down on the face is very time consuming and not user-friendly or as user-friendly as it was on the app. I really wonder if these tech folks think about things like this when they do their updates. Not all updates are good ones.

I have tried updating my Charge 3 every day since 1.88.11 released and the process says there is an update, that it can take up to 30 min. then it says update complete after 15-20 seconds.  How do I get it?

I did nothing proactive to get the update, I didn't even know there was one due.

I just got a notification when I logged into the fitbit app that said there was an update.

When I tapped on the notification it took me through the downloading process.

Took just over half an hour.

Maybe they're rolling it out regionally?
