8/14 Update: We are continuing to roll out the firmware update for Charge 3 and expect more users will see it as available. This is a progressive rollout, and all customers can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed. If you don't see the option to update, don't worry - you'll have it soon!
Please use this thread to share your experience updating the firmware once it's received. If you have a different inquiry, please post in a thread with a similar topic or create a new post.
7/23 Update: the firmware update has only rolled out to a small percentage of users, and will roll out further next week. It should be rolling out to everyone soon. Thanks for your patience and interest, we look forward to hearing your feedback on the new firmware.
We've begun releasing new firmware (1.88.11) for Charge 3 to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CHARGE 3 FIRMWARE UPDATE: ALARMS CLEARED
We moved where you set alarms from the Fitbit app to your wrist! After you update, any alarms set will be cleared and need to set up again on the device.
To make sure you don't miss an important alarm, open the Alarms app on Charge 3 and tap *+ Set up a new alarm*. Tap the checkmark to save and make sure it’s set.

@Deanothing you have to wait for a banner in the app.
If you check for updates, and force it, it does not work.

So apparently what Fitbit had done is tossed all our names into a hopper, and they're drawing out names one at a time like some sort of update raffle. Got it.

@Gordian wrote:I did nothing proactive to get the update, I didn't even know there was one due.
I just got a notification when I logged into the fitbit app that said there was an update.
When I tapped on the notification it took me through the downloading process.
Took just over half an hour.
Maybe they're rolling it out regionally?
You're exactly right, or randomly. The only thing that puzzles me is this is the slowest rollout I've experienced in several years. They are either being very cautious, or they have experienced some problems and have slowed it down. In the end we'll never know. BTW, I don't want to sound like a shill for Fitbit, but remember the moderator has NO power over the process or the product. Hopefully he/she will send our comments up the chain of command but remember they can only spout the "corporate line". They have no power.

I haven't had my Fitbit for very long so I can't specifically speak to Fitbit-related updates, but I do agree this is the slowest rollout I've seen for a product update ever. Ridiculously slow. And the lack of feedback on where the process is at only compounds the problem, especially given that they were full-court press announcing the release when it first started. Something must have happened that they didn't foresee that caused them to slow things down a lot, like a persistent issue that wasn't ferreted out in the alpha or beta process. I do also agree with you that we need to remain civil with the moderators here, as they're just doing their jobs, and they aren't managers or engineers involved with the actual process, they just get to be the face. I wouldn't be surprised if the moderators are even more frustrated than we are, knowing we want feedback, possibly knowing some of the answers, but having their hands tied by bosses who would rather remain silent than to admit a nasty bug didn't rear its head until after final release.
I probably should be counting my blessings that my Charge 3 works as promised, based on how many people are here having issues. I'm mostly greedy, liking the idea that some of those clock faces coming out with the 4 that I thought were attractive are going to make it to us 3 users.
Still, feedback on where the process is would be greatly appreciated. Even if it is bad news. Then we at least have the comfort that Fitbit isn't wanting to release junk.

You can now only set alarms via the device itself, after the 1.88.11 update. Please refer to this Fitbit help page on "What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update?".

I (unfortunately) installed the update but would like to roll it back. Can I do that?
I now have no choice but to set alarms on the device itself which is difficult to do, hard to see, and prone to errors. I want to go back to setting alarms on the app.

You can now set alarms on your device and use Smart Wake. Note the following:
- To allow you to set alarms right on your wrist, we had to clear any existing alarms you set. To make sure you don't miss an alarm, open the Alarms app
on Charge 3 and tap + Set up a new alarm. Tap the check mark to save and make sure it’s set.- Note that you can no longer set alarms in the Fitbit app.
For more information, see How do I manage alarms on my Fitbit device?
I understand why they wanted to put that functionality on the device itself, but then why remove it from the app? I suspect it will take much longer to set an alarm on the fitbit than it has been through the app. And I'm an senior with fat fingers ;0)

Still No update.
It's very frustrating that Fitbit can't give a definite answer to the timetable of rolling the update. Every company must have a timetable for rolling out any software update. Don't announce the update if you can't push it to your customers.
If there is any problems with the new firmware, why can't you just tell us instead of leaving that many customers in the dark.
I'm sadly very disappointed in Fitbit

I agree, as it's been about 2 and ½ weeks since they first announced it. It's been annoying waking up and going into the Fitbit app just to find that it still isn't available 😞
