Charge 3 Stops counting steps right before step goal

So, I’m just realizing now...I thought it was a coincidence, that when I’m on my elliptical, when I get about 18 steps away from my step goal, the step count on my charge 3 stops counting steps.  I think it’s been going on awhile, but just noticed it a few days ago.  When I get off the elliptical and walk, the steps start back up after a bit....if I get back on the elliptical, it stops again.  I have reset my fitbit twice hoping that would help, but it continues.  Does anyone have a suggestion of why this might be happening?  It’s very frustrating.

New device-it is not counting steps accurately.  Tried rebooting, I will see what happens tomorrow.  Welcome any suggestions!

After being on a treadmill and being almost done with the recumbent bike I noticed the same lock up 18 steps before reaching my goal. Moved to another machine and gave it another twelve minutes and quit. An hour or so later, all of a sudden the display registered another 2000 steps. Very frustrating. Obviously a careless programming bug. Not getting the motivation that I’m earning.
