Charge 3 and connected GPS

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,

I have the Fitbit charge 3 and I installed the Fitbit application on my android phone. The application keeps showing a notification mentioning "Connected GPS is running".

Is it a normal behavior?

Is it possible to remove the notification?

Thanks

Hey there @Toé, it's nice to see you around here! Charge 3 includes connected GPS. This means that it will connect to the GPS through your phone. Connected GPS is available for all supported phones with GPS sensors. For more information about setting up connected GPS; check this helpful article.

  1. To use connected GPS, turn on Bluetooth and GPS on your phone.
  2. Make sure the Fitbit app has permission to use GPS or location services.
  3. Check that connected GPS is turned on for the exercise. a. Open the Exercise app and swipe left to find the exercise you want to track. b. Swipe up and make sure Use Phone GPS is set to On.
  4. Keep your phone with you while you exercise.

Please check Charge 3 User Manual (page 36) for information on tracking GPS exercises with this new device.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

I think I figured out how to stop this.  I have a Charge 3 and on the watch auto-recognizes some exercises.  Swipe right to see the exercise menu.  Then edit each exercise to turn off "use connected gps."  I think what has been happening is it is trying to auto-recognize my treadmill activity but becuase it is indoors it doesn't work... and then it fails to disconnect the gps after the activity is finished.

After disabling "use connected gps" in each of the auto-recognized activities the "connected gps running" notification went away and was replaced by the normal "syncronization" persistent notification.  Unfortunately I didn't figure this out until my batter was nearly dead!

Same problem here. My phone was showing "Connected GPS is running" all the time and this was killing my phone battery.

I had to unckeck all activities so they don't use GPS to fix that.

I think there is a bug here!

I have the same problem but even with all exercises turned off I still have "Connected GPS is running". It updates constantly, even when sitting still! DRAINING my phone battery! It's down 7% in 5 minutes (since I took it off the charger.)

What else can I do?!

This didn't work for me. I still get GPS not connected in the app and no gps icon appears on the charge 3. Is there something specific for Motorola phones?

Hi I just gotten my Fitbt Chrage 3. Quick Q on GPS.

Assuming I turned on GPS for running and my phone is not with me. Will the Fitbit 3 auto synced up the GPS map once its connected when I am near my phone thereafter?

No this would not work. This is because all GPS data comes from your phone as the Charge 3 does not have it's own inbuilt GPS. It needs to talk to your phone on the journey.
