Charge 3 blank screen

I just bought a brand new Charge 3, I’ve never used Fitbit before I followed through with the set up instructions and now the screen is black. on the app it is says I have to update the firmware I have selected update over five times every time the screen does a little line across, like it’s updating and then the app tells me it’s finished but then it failed to sync. I think I have a defected device.
