Charge 3 cellular data usage

This morning I was woken up by a text from my phone company saying that I had used up most of my internet (I have 12gb)for this month. I looked at what had possibly used that much data and it was my Fitbit app that had used 5GB today alone. I went to sleep at 00.30 AM and for the 7h I was asleep, it used 589-621 MB!! Every hour. In July it used 81MB the whole month. I contacted customer support who said it is normal data usage and that I should turn off background data if I don't like it. After pointing out that if this is normal, I would be able to use Fitbit for 2.5days in a month but have somehow used it for several years, they said they'd make a note of my complaint. So I will probably be buying another company's watch but this is just to let others know what might happen.
