Charge 3 dim screen fix now not syncing

My Charge 3 screen has been too dim to read for a few weeks. I contacted customer support and the 'fixes' have left it not syncing. Annoyingly this coincided with the mass sync outage this week. But now that's all over and it's still not syncing. It means not only do I have a dim screen but it's 10 minutes slow, on 12 hour rather than 24 hour clock, not recording or reporting sleep or active minutes. As a watch to tell the time it is literally useless. As an activity tracker it is literally useless. I've been told by customer support to expect an email but it's been 6 days! 6 days of not being able to tell the right time on a watch! Tomorrow I'm going to have to get a battery for my old analogue watch. Really disappointed with Fitbit quality and my replacement definitely won't be a Fitbit. 

 

Does anyone have any helpful advice before I throw it in the bin? Of course it's out of warranty but that shouldn't mean it no longer works. Not for the upfront price and the fact it's less than 3 years old (in fact in that time I've replaced the strap because it broke and the tablet under warranty because it was incorrectly measuring steps.) So basically it's not even 3 years old!
