Charge 3 dimmed screen

It appears that my clock face has dimmed since the most recent update.  This seems to be a common issue.  Has a solution been found yet?  My device is roughly 1 1/2 years old.  I've already tried the troubleshooting methods on this board with no luck.  I love my Fitbit, but this is rather discouraging especially considering how much you pay for it.

I had bought one for my wife and I took hers because I could not see the screen on mine after update.

Mine was put in sleep mode, if you can still see the face in a dark room, navigate to settings (swipe from right till the last), tap, scroll to sleep mode, tap.  Or plug it in, hold side for reboot, look at screen, and if sleep mode should be on the screen, then tap that.

If totally black, I’d have no idea except the reboot, and you probably know the steps.

It looks like the battery may be wearing out.  That's pretty discouraging because I've only had it about a year and a half.  I've already tried all the troubleshooting suggestions with no luck.
