Hi everyone, I am a new Fitbit user, I see there is some discussion about double counting steps but as of yet I can't see a solution the fits my issue exactly.
Today I went on the elliptical machine for 40 mins, before I got on I had around 1000 steps. when I got off I have 5000 steps. I tracked the Elliptical using my Charge 3 which worked, well heart rate, time etc but it seems I also got steps as well, so for me it seems I am getting the benefit of steps and the Eli-cal work out, which while nice does not see an accurate way of tracking movement and critically calories burned.
Any help great full received.
Thank you

Hey @Rwgvi, welcome to the Community.
For tips about improving accuracy, I recommend checking the help article How accurate are Fitbit devices?. Factors such as device placement, dominant or non-dominant hand, and stride length affect the number of steps recorded.
If it still seems like your device is undercounting or overcounting steps, try a step test:
1. Put your device on your wrist.
2. Walk 100 steps, making sure to count a step each time one of your feet hits the ground.
3. Pause, then check your device to see your step count.
Let me know how many it registered.

I don't think the forum is understanding the problem. Mine is doing the double steps, miles & stairs too. Exactly double. When I sync it, the correct count comes up. I had the fireworks for 10,000 steps three times today!!! Each time, when it synced again the correct count came up!

Just happened to me today. I’ve been using Fitbit fine for a month.

I did the re-boot thing several times and after a day or two it would happen again. But it has now been at least 2 weeks since my last re-boot and so far it has been OK. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Same problem as jogger Rwgvi. I resorted to taking it off while on stationary bike. The Fitbit moderator obviously doesn’t understand the issue.

Same! It’s driving me crazy. Fireworks go off mid walk. I know for a fact I haven’t gotten to 10k steps yet. So I grab phone and sync and it goes back to correct (half) number of steps.
if it helps this is on exercise/walk/connect/go

I hope you have better luck than I did! I kept calling and they would have me restart. Same thing. Call again. Try something else and restart. No change. Third call I asked for a new Fitbit (or at least a discount on a new one) and she said "Well let's try this first". At that point I said "Never Mind" and hung up!!!

double counting maybe once or twice, because I forgot to take the system down at night. Otherwise I am good.
God bless, and good luck.
Try at end of day. take the FIT system down on your smart phone, it will show how many steps. after midnight it will go to 0.

So is there a way to change the settings of the unit? Mine under counts the number of steps.
