Charge 3 stopped tracking during exercise

My charge 3 said 3,000 steps prior to my afternoon walk.  When I returned after 35 minutes of walking it was only 3,600. Normally it is >2000 steps.  Has anyone else seen this?    Thanks in advance for any advice.

Why is my Fitbit 3 not automatically recording my exercise, I have tried all previous instructions to kick start but still not recording my swimming running.

Best Answer

Hello @SwimG, welcome to the Community forums. I'm sorry to see you've been having trouble with your exercise not being recorded automatically.

Before considering other options, could you please confirm which are the steps or instructions that you already tried? In the meantime, make sure you've followed the suggestions listed here below:

  • Check the duration of your workout, remember that Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities at least 15 minutes long through the SmartTrack feature.
  • If you continue to have the same difficulty, try to restart your Fitbit devices following these steps
  • Also, try keeping a battery level above 25% for optimal performance.

I hope this helps, please keep me posted.

Again today my Fitbit stopped mid run!  I had restarted it yesterday, it had 91% charge.  Are you telling me that I have to restart it every time I use it?  Not acceptable.   And once again,  it is not showing partial mile splits!  What was tracked of my 3.6 mile run was 1.54 and I only got the pace for the first mile.  It showed partial miles for like a week and now it's not.  Again, not acceptable.  This is these are basic functions that should work!

Yes, I have tried all the steps.   I have just started charging the tracker and automatically resetting it every time its completed charging.   I really don't think that's right but I would rather have my full run stats even if I don't get the pace for my partial mile.  I simply look at the pace when I stop tracking although I still don't think that's acceptable.   My Charge 2 tracked this fine and the Charge 3 did for a short time and then an update and it's gone!

I have been having the exact same issue for months. My Charge 3 will randomly end my workouts. Just happened to me a few minutes ago while working out. It’s very irritating, and I just updated my firmware a week or two ago. This needs to be fixed ASAP...the Charge 2 never gave me these issues.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Charge 3 requires many more button presses to start and end a workout than the Charge 2 did. The Charge 2 had the “press and hold” functionality to start or end a workout, but the Charge 3 requires you to press two more buttons after having selected the workout you want to do. This should be remedied.

Hello @Willrich, welcome to the Community forums, it's good to see you around for the first time. I'm sorry to see that you've experienced the same difficulty with the workout being interrupted suddenly with your Charge 3.

Thank you for sharing all this information, Fitbit is aware of this and the numerous reports from users that have experienced it and they are working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible, but for the moment, we haven't received any more updates.

Regarding the option to start a workout with Charge 3 in comparison to the Charge 2, I noticed this idea has been shared previously in the Feature Suggestion board of the Community, if you haven't done so already, I recommend that you vote for this idea and share your comments as well. This is always helpful for the team of developers to track popularity over time.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Hello, I would like to add another report of the 'stopping mid-workout' bug to the list. I got my wife a Charge 3 for mother's day, and it has stopped mid-workout at least 2 times (in 2 weeks, I think 6 or 7 workouts, Barre classes). Is this still on the development team's docket, and is there any way to tell when it will be fixed? It seems like a pretty major bug to have still after 7+ months.

This is the first time I've seen this thread, so we haven't tried changing the face yet, although that seems like a strange reason for it to have this issue. She reset the Charge after the last time this happened (about a week ago I think), and that seemed to help until today. It was at pretty much full charge as of the end of the workout.

I am also having this problem. Despite restarting, my tracker is stopping in the middle of exercise that is initiated by me. I have had to restart the tracking process 4 times in a one-hour exercise session...What can be done to fix this?

Best Answer

My Charge 3 just stopped tracking my workout TWICE IN A ROW; it stopped once, so I started it again (which, by the way, starts a whole new workout which is not at all what we want), and then during the same workout, it stopped AGAIN.  This is incredibly annoying, and what's worse, FitBit is entirely too slow to issue bug fixes or updates; this thread continues all the way back to 2018 and yet we have no fix for this, and it took them months to add the ability to change the stats displayed on the home screen.  It makes me wonder what FitBit's engineers do all day since clearly they aren't paying attention to what is likely the most prominent glitch on one of their flagship offerings.  I may switch to a different product if the company doesn't get its act together.  Very disappointed and dissatisfied in this product.

I hear you! I've only had my charge 3 for a few months and it worked well until recently. As a "fitness tracker" I use it primarily for...fitness tracking (shocking, I know!)...so, it's very frustrating to have a device that cannot do what it's entire purpose is...

Is there a way to get a refund if this isn't resolved in a timely manner?!

Hello @TravBot@ellesee@Willrich, and welcome to the new users in the Community.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and concerns regarding the negative experience you've had with the Charge 3 that randomly stops recording an activity. I'd like to provide you with more information about this or about when this could be resolved, unfortunately, we haven't received any other updates for the moment, so there's no specific period of time that we can provide. The team of developers is already aware of this and it's constantly working to find a solution.

@ellesee, regarding the refund process that you mentioned, I wouldn't be able to confirm, since this is handled by the customer support team, but you can find all the information about that process here

I'm also having the issue. Started the exercise workout for a run and made it just shy of 4 miles. I started the exercise (not auto detect) and checked it for my pace and noticed it wasn't tracking anymore. I was prompted to start a new workout and lost my previous activity.

Charge2's very nice that why I bought charge3 since Jan2019. My charge3 stop tracking during running too often, that's so so annoying. I saw this topic 3-4 months ago and tried to reset my charge2 as recommended at least twice a day and also every single time before I go running but it's still happen. Yesterday it stopped while weighting. This  morning I ran 10km, it stopped around first 3 km and I just realise and restart it on 4th km. After run, the first 3km just disappear. The same thing also happened when I went mini marathon event. I want record of 10km within 50minutes for my proud and motivation but in my fibit app show just 5km. That's unacceptable. When this issue's gonna be solved?? It takes too long

Hello -

I have been out of running due to an injury/surgery since about April and I went for my first run and my Fitbit stopped.  I restarted the exercise 3 times and just gave up.  It is fully charged, I restart it every time I charge it and it never gets below 85%.

My firmware version is:  28.20001.63.5

Can you advise what I need to do in order to get my runs/paces/times corrected?  I have been using it for walking and it seemed to be fine until I tried running again today.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I got my Charge 3 shortly after they came out because of swimming feature.
I have a Charge 2 and love it.
The Charge 3 is turning off during my workout.
I started out trying to use the auto feature for Kickboxing, it didn't track my whole workout.
So I then went to manually starting and stopping it under the Workout title.
For some reason it stops on its own. I think the screen is too sensitive and any touch/jolt/bump pauses and/or stops the workout.  Very frustrating!
The thing I loved about the Charge 2 is you started and stopped it by using the side button.
