Charge 3 weather not syncing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've read numerous questions/complaints about syncing with the weather app but I haven't found an answer to my question. If this is repetitive. I apologize.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus that I use to sync with my Charge 3. Weather does sync. However, when I look at the weather a few hours later after syncing my Charge 3 gives me weather information that is only current as of the time of the last sync.

Is this the way the Charge 3 is supposed to work? I would think weather information on the Charge 3 is only useful if it is current and not something that has to continually be re-synced with my phone.

Also, what weather app on my iPhone does the Charge 3 use to sync with? I have several different ones, and perhaps that's the problem.

Thank you.

Hey there @SunsetRunner, it's nice to see you around here! Thanks for the information provided about what  you're experiencing with your Weather app.

Some apps, such as Weather, require All-Day Sync to be turned on for data to be sent from the Fitbit app to your tracker:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Find the option to turn on All-Day Sync.

To set up the Weather app:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the gear icon next to Weather. You may need to scroll down to find the app.
  4. By default, the Weather app shows your current location, which can't be deleted. Add up to 2 additional locations you want to see in the Weather app.
  5. Sync your device with the Fitbit app. It can take a few minutes to see the updated list of locations on your device.

If the weather for your current location doesn’t appear, check that you turned on location services for the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I allow the Fitbit app to use my phone's GPS?

If you change locations, sync your device to see your new location in the Weather app.

To change the units used for the temperature in the Weather app:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap the Account icon > your device image.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the gear icon next to Weather. You may need to scroll down to find the app.
  4. In the Temperature Unit section, tap Units and choose the unit you want to use.
  5. Sync your device and then open the Weather app on your device to see the updated units.

And additional thing I did with my iOS,  was to go to General> Reset > Reset Location & Privacy on my iPhone, and then everything started working.

Give this a shot and let me know the outcome!

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and instructions! I followed everything you said to do. Since then when I bring up weather on my Charge 3 the weather indicates a temperature as of "X" minutes ago. It is not giving me current temperatures. I have my AccuWeather app on my iPhone set to update in the background, etc. the same way as I did for FitBit. Therefore, shouldn't this weather info update whenever the AccuWeather app updates? Or are my expectations wrong? Thank you!

Thanks for getting back @SunsetRunner! The Weather app you should us with your Charge 3 is AccuWeather app, as you mentioned in the previous post.

If the app is not syncing the temperatures, I'd appreciate if you can let me know:

  • What's the OS that your phone is running
  • What's the latest version of the Fitbit app installed
  • What's the current firmware version your Charge 3 is running

Looking forward to your reply.

Thank you for your continuing support with this! 🙂

My iPhone 7 Plus is running iOS 12.1.2

My FitBit app version is 2.85

My Charge 3 firmware version is 20001.49.45

I have several weather apps that I use for various purposes. I'm guessing this isn't the problem since I also have AccuWeather. However, I thought I'd mention this just in case.

I'm not sure if it will help your diagnosis or not but my Charge 3 also credits me with taking stairs each day when I'm no where near stairs during the day. I believe this is a known issue, but thought I'd mention it too.

Thank again for helping! I really like the Charge 3, but this is very frustrating.

Thanks for sharing those details with me @SunsetRunner! I recommend keeping the "all-day sync" turned on so that the Charge 3 will pull your weather as often as possible.

Also, if you open up the app to sync, and then go to the Weather tracking screen with the app open, it seems to send the data through at that point? (as if it needs to be pulled through).

Something that happened to me was that changes done on the Fitbit app on my iPhone were not being synced with the Charger 3. So, I tried General>Reset>Reset Location & Privacy on my iPhone, and then everything started working. So, it's fixed and I can start seeing the Weather on my 'Location'.

Let me know the outcome!

I really appreciate the help you're giving me. However, I'm afraid this still hasn't resolved the issue. I'm very disappointed with this aspect of the Charge 3. I'm considering going with an Apple watch instead.

😞

Same here. I have "all day sync", access allowed "always" both in fitbit and accuweather (where fitbit sources data from) and still it does not auto sync. It either shows data from hours ago or not data at all until you manually sync. That is not useful

I have tried rebooting both app, band and bluetooth three times in addition to resetting location services and reallowing full access to all relevant apps.

I see this is a problem shared by many members of the community. Would be great to see fitbit provide a definitive answer or solve this issue with its dev team rather than providing us with "how to turn on all day sync and location services" instructions.

Looks quite clearly like an issue on Fitbit end

Didn't work for me. I have done all those steps -- some of them multiple times -- and weather just syncs whenever it feels like -- certainly not anything whatsoever to do with synching the app with my fitbit. It's useless. 42 minutes ago. 36 minutes ago. NEVER right now.

Would Apple watch work better? I spent 45 minutes just getting this darned thing to show weather -- and there were so many steps it was almost funny. Eight steps? At least. But it still shows weather from long ago -- not for the present. My bigger worry is that I will need 45 minutes for every single little thing I want to do. I was frustrated at the end of 45 minutes just to get it to show weather -- and to find out that it isn't current and I need to pull out my iPhone every time after all unless I want a general "It was like this a few hours ago" notification. Is this because the Fitbit is designed to work with multiple platforms? I have an iPhone 7, and I wonder if the entire objective is to get people using Windows; or Galaxies; etc.?

Try leaving accuweather running in the background on your phone and syncing charge 3 manually. It won’t solve the issue but will may be at least allow you to see “right now” every now and then on you charge 3. It has at least for me.

I have considered iwatch too but size and daily charging are holding me back

I was hopeful, but it didn’t work on the iPhone weather app so I downloaded Accuweather. Kept it open and did a manual synch (all-day synch is on as well). It’s still not responding at all. I’m so far about as underwhelmed as can be. It just seems to be basic - is it really impossible to synch? Do they actually have any idea how their product works and doesn’t work?

I am having the same issues..Why will this not automatically sync.  If I want to see the weather on your charge 3.. why in the heck would I have to go to my phone to sync it when I can just look at the weather on my phone.. Just a waste of time.

I have Charge 4, and I’ve done all these steps but the weather app is still not syncing.

I've had the same issue for days now. I kept synching and still no weather. After wasting lots of time, I finally figured it out. You have to go into your account on your iPhone, select your fitbit device, go to Apps, then look for Weather. Open it. A pop up window will direct you to turn on location services in settings. It will automatically take you there if you select to "go to settings" in the popup window.  If it doesn't, then go to your iPhone Setting, scroll down for FitBit and open it. Open Location tab (should be the first one on the list) and change it to "Always". I had it set to "While Using App". It has to be set to "Always". It's the only way the weather will work on Fitbit. Now it works.  I think it's going to drain my phone and watch battery. We'll see.

I had the same problem so I installed Accuweather app and gave it permission for location at all times. Problem solved.
