Charge 4 keeps changing brightness setting by itself

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi - I know how to change the brightness setting on my Charge 4.  I have had lots of practice lately because for the last month or so it keeps changing the brightness level from "Normal" to "Dim" all by itself.  It is very difficult to change brightness levels when you can't see the screen.

My question is why does it keep resetting to dim?  I have tried setting it to normal and to auto, but it keeps resetting to dim.  How can I stop this?

This happens to me all the time, including twice tonight.  I go into settings and set if for "normal" and it stays bright for a while then switches back to the "dim" setting.

how about post an answer here? The original comment has 8 people that have indicated that it affects them too. I think we all have better things to do than contact customer support. It happens to me infrequently, but I have experienced the same thing.

@bmoliver @dz1234 Thank you for sharing your replies.

The only recommendations at the moment are to change the brightness settings on the device and to complete a restart procedure. However, if you continue to have the same problem afterwards, it would be necessary to continue the assistance process with the Support team so they can let you know if there are ay other options available for you. Thanks again for all the feedback provided about this.

See you around.

I have the same issue on my charge 3. You can't adjust the settings on the device when you can't see anything on the screen. Mine 'resets' back to dim at least twice a day. So frustrated now.

I kinda gave up and upgraded to the Charge 5.  Brighter color screen has no problems in full sun.

Update - I contacted customer service did everything they said, never fixed the issue.  I ended up upgrading to a Charge 5

Same issue here.. Charge 4 changes the brightness setting itself back to dim.  I don’t wear my when I sleep.  Every night I put mine on the night stand, I can change it before I goto sleep and every morning when I’m putting it back on it’s back on dim.

I have the same problem - if there is a solution that is known can you please share this with us?

I have the same issue.  I can barely see my charge 4 screen in the day or night. 🙄

Yep and me! Soo frustrating and Fitbit - WHY? And how can it be fixed?

Best Answer

If this issue has been going on since at least 2021 how about time there was an update fix to the software

Model: Fitbit Charge 4

I used to be indecisive but I'm not so sure now.

Still no fix?  Very poor Fitbit, why would people buy another Fitbit device based on their experience of a two year old device failing due to screen problems.  Its clearly not a settings problem it's that the device hardware simply fails.

Hi everyone, thank you for all the updates and feedback that you've shared about this so far. The team continues to work to improve the quality of products and services.

I've seen some users whose settings might have changed when they unintentionally pressed the button. As mentioned earlier, it's always recommended to change the brightness settings on the device and to complete a restart procedure. If the issue persists, make sure to get in touch with the Customer Support team so they can provide you with the next steps.

I am glad to see it is not just me having this issue. I was starting to question my own sanity!

Thank you for replying. When you complete a restart procedure (which I must admit I didn't know existed) you do get a smiley face on the Fitbit which was encouraging. My smiley face however did not last - the problem is exactly the same. I am sure all this needs is a tweek to the software and we would all have our smiley faces back again!!

First of all, nobody said they had an issue with Charge 5, and some said specifically that they did not have the problem with Charge 5.

Second, people come here to be given solutions, not to be told to call Customer Support.  Another user specifically asked for you to post the solution here, but he was ignored.  I have this problem with my Charge 3 and I am also asking.

As others have said, it’s very difficult to change the settings when you can’t see the screen.  Have you actually tried it yourself?  If you do, maybe you’ll have done compassion for us.

My suggestion is to add a method in the app for changing the Brightness setting, so that when the FitBit decides to override the user’s preferences, at least we can see our phone screens and reset it more easily.

-------------------

There is clearly a software bug.  FitBit needs to own it and schedule a fix. FitBit also needs to do a better job of listening to its customers who are all asking for a fix, not to be redirected to Customer Support.  Customer Support should be looking at these type of posts and figuring out how they can fix things that are important to the users.

As I mentioned earlier, I switched to the Charge 5 a year or so ago and it does not have the same issue.  My Charge 5 is clearly visible even in very bright sun.
