The screen was bright enough to read indoors until two days ago. Now I can barely read it indoors. I do not see a setting to change the brightness. Is there one?

Hi @JoyNea,
Yes, there is a setting to change the brightness. You can find it in the Settings App.
To access this setting, starting from your clock face:
What may have happened, however, is you may have manually enabled the Sleep Mode (which automatically dims the screen). You can check for this by pressing and holding the side button for about two seconds until the Quick Settings screen appears. If you see information related to Payments (Fitbit Pay / Wallet), swipe to the left to access the Quick Settings modes. The top mode will be DND (Do Not Disturb). The one under that is Sleep. If the Sleep one isn't greyed out with a slash from bottom left to top right over the moon icon, then your Sleep Mode is currently enabled. You can tap on the moon icon part of the screen to disable Sleep Mode.
Let us know if that helps get your screen brighter again.

Thank you! I found it. I must have inadvertently changed it to dim. It’s back to normal now.

I gave the same problem but my settings app is greyed out and I cannot change the brightness. Only had my charge 4 for a few weeks

Not sure how, but this setting keeps getting changed back to Dim. I've tried setting it to bright and auto and it will be fine for a few weeks, the suddenly unable to read it in daylight and I have to trawl through the settings to find it again. Such a painful, why is there even a setting to make it completely illegible? 🤣

Frustrated. How is a person suppose to got to settings app, if you can see the screen because it's so dark. Is there another way?
----------------
Here is my solution to my own question. To be able to read the dimmed Fitbit 4, I had to be in a darker place. Even the computer screen interferred with my abilty to read the fitbit. If can't see the face, just swip left 4 times. Settings is at the bottom of the screen. Just tap it to reset you brightness.

I would love to know. My screen has been black since I asked this question. I only use the app now.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @GaryMUK @PollyPolly @Rgpatnode @JBLB @TiffanyE.
Thank you for all the feedback that you've provided about the brightness of the Charge 4 display.
There are currently a few settings on your device to be able to increase brightness of the display, but I have seen other people have provided this feedback about brightness when they're under the sunlight, so I highly recommend that you vote for this idea posted in the Feature Suggestion section of the Community; this is always helpful for the team of developers to continue to track popularity and demand over time: Charge 4 screen brightness boost.
If the screen is completely black or unresponsive and you already tried the restart procedure, I recommend that you get in touch with the Customer Support team here for further assistance with this.
Have a great day.

Apologies this is an old thread, but mine does this and I know why. If I put it in sleep mode, it will automatically revert to the 'dim' brightness setting when I turn sleep mode off. I would say that's a bug not a feature, and took me a while to figure out why it kept going dim without me changing the settings.

I still can't see my screen at all so all I can do are things through the app.

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @philsheldon.
Thank you for sharing this information about your experience with the Charge 4.
As you mentioned earlier, the screen gets dimmer once you turn on the Sleep Mode. When the sleep mode setting is on:
@TiffanyE Before considering other options, please let me know if you already tried all the steps listed here previously. In addition, please make sure the Sleep Mode feature is turned off as well.
I'll be around.

Thank you this happened to me too - all fixed!
Had bought a Fitbit 5 to upgrade but that's got a fault where it can't retain it's bluetooth connection, so sending back as this forum says it's a known issue but no fix! Will stick with my reliable 4.
