Charge 4 steps while driving

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I’m a truck driver and I’ve had this issue where I’m driving down the road and my Charge 4 is recording steps while I’m driving even if I take my watch off my wrist wrap it in a towel and lay it in sleeper. This is driving me nuts I was in New Jersey the other day and when I left my watch had recorded 2,500 steps by the time I had driven to Pittsburgh, Pa retrieved my watch and it was showing that I had walked 7,000 steps and had 200 minutes of cardio heart rate! How do I resolve this issue ?

Welcome to the Community, @Riddleicon.

I understand how are you feeling. Keep in mind that the wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms, when you are driving or for example when your tracker is close to a fan, it counts steps due to the vibrations. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?.

Now about your inquiry, there are 2 ways you can prevent this:

  1. You can plug your tracker into the charging cable while you are driving, the Fitbit will not count steps while it is charging.
  2. You can log the driving manually by following the steps in this article.

Let me know the outcome.

Pardon me but this is the reason I chose not to upgrade to a C4 - FitBit has failed to address the issue of steps being recorded while driving.  You need to hire some Apple programmers to get it done - if Apple can program a phone to recognize driving then FitBit should be able to do so.  This is a HISTORICAL problem (over 5 years) that users have asked for time and again.  C2 users recognized the issue, C3 users have a thread a mile long asking for the program edit, and now I see it in C4 forum.  You people need to listen to your users and program a fix to not count steps when driving.  Your programmers can not be so ignorant as to not know how to program this requested feature (after 5+ years of forum content).  The C3 will be the last FitBit product this owner will use until FiBit learns to program user requests.  If this C3 fails before the software is corrected i will be moving to Apple Watch, Garmin, or anyone else who understands that steps should not be counted when driving.  I have had to bow out of many challenges because I chose not to cheat and it really aggravates me that FitBit does not listen to its users.  Have a good day.

Hello I logged driving I set the time I drove and when I stopped, but it zeroed out all the days steps. Is there a fix for this?

The fact that fitbit hasn't responded to this is frustrating. I second your thoughts and will be moving to Apple watch as well. I would rather stay but uncaring developers don't deserve our support. 😩

The number of times my Fitbit has auto detected driving as “outdoor bike”.  I just go with it now.  I figure it’s the roads around here, they’re not particularly smooth, so it makes sense the intense vibrations register as steps.

I do seem to recall once upon a time logging driving manually as an activity, but I’ll admit that I haven’t done that for some time.

I’m going to throw my Fitbit in the rubbish bin now and get an Apple Watch.  Haha just joking, I’m not a two year old having a tantrum here.

Fitbit gps should be able to figure out your not walking at driving speeds, pretty poor functionality tracking driving as walking steps.
