Charger screen is black, unresponsive

My Charge 3 stopped fully functioning on Sunday. The screen has been unresponsive, was able to be restarted but then blacked out again. The heart rate light is always on and the device won't sync with app. When I try to turn it off/on from the charger, all it does is vibrate and then stops after 10 seconds. On Sunday night it did have the horizontal line across the screen and after holding the side button to restart that night, it finally did the smiley face.

I've only had it since last Thanksgiving (black Friday purchase). Not too happy it's already causing so many issues. Any advice?

That is exactly what happens to my device yesterday. I have tried to charge it but it only shows a line over the screen. It doesn’t respond to the restart instruction.

When I stop charging and out it on,  it constantly vibrate and flip between screens And doesn’t respond at all.

i have had the Fitbit since nov-18

Hi @SunsetRunner @IngerW, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums.

Thank you for sharing this information about the trouble you've been having with the screen of your Charge 3 that is not responding or not working properly.

Before considering other options, and besides the restart procedure that you already tried, please make sure that you've also followed the steps listed here below to complete the long restart procedure:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

In addition, please try changing the clock face option on your Charge 3, this has been useful for some users as well.

Please keep me posted on the outcome.

My Charge 3 was charging fine this morning but has been dim for a couple of days.  I tried to get to the settings but the screen went black.  I have tried resetting on the charger and get the smiley face (as if 100% charged) but my phone sync shows 86% and while on the charger is still charging as the app numbers are changing.  When removed from the charger, the screen still black so resetting didn't help.  It does appear to be syncing properly but I would like to be able to see the stats.  Please help

How can you change the clock face when the mobile app shows clocks for other Fitbits (Ionic, Versa) but not for the Charge 3?  These steps did not help me.  My screen is still black

I am sorry that yours is acting up. The same exact thing started to happen last week to mine. It is less than a year old and this is the fourth Fitbit device that I have had in a row not make it to a year without having issues. I am about ready to look for a new company. I am spending way too much for a product that can't even last a year. I have tried restarting and resetting and this doesn't fix the issue.

I tried restarting my Charge 3 the long and short way. Nothing has happening for either, the screen continues to be black. I can’t even get the short and medium vibration for the long restart and of course I can’t see the smiley face as the screen is black. As others have said this is my second fibit that has not made it a year without complications.

@DavideFitbit,

I am having the same issue (black screen, no longer shows any data).  I tried your suggestions but though I can feel the vibrations, nothing changes with the screen (always black).  What do you suggest for next steps?

Thank you for your help.

I have done this multiple times and still nothing. At times the horizontal line comes across the screen and then the smile comes, or just the smile or the smile then the line. And still nothing. I've had it on the charger more than it's been off and nothing. It will vibrate but usually for several seconds (like 😎 or it'll just vibrate for as long as I press the sides and then once I stop pressing, it stops and screen is still black.

Not sure what to do from here, but I'm feeling it's dead. Thanks.

that was supposed to be 8 seconds not an emoji.

It is also not syncing to my phone. I noticed an update is available; I tried to do the update in hopes it would work, but the app can't find my device to do so.

Thanks.

I chatted yesterday with support, no replacement for mine, so they gave me 25% discount on a new order.  Ordered a Versa 2.

I'm having the exact same problem 🥺😥 No screen at all for me, just a couple of vibrations when trying to reset. Only started when I tried to recharge... Wonder if it has anything to do with the update currently being rolled out?? 🤔🙄

Changing clock faces didn’t work, resetting didn’t work.  I tried deleting and reinstalling the app now my phone doesn’t recognize my Fitbit now.

What do you do when these do not work. Throw it out?  Did all these and got the smiley face and it started charging and died again. Tried changing the clock face but can’t connect to the device from app
